Hi All,
I think its been about 12 years or so since I posted last, but I'm finally back... After selling my 91 GT Hatch in college, to keep the bigger dream alive, I finally Found a 92 Notch in the exact the same color (wild strawberry). Not quite sure what I'm going to do yet, but the cars in great shape and I'm looking forward to some proper mods to make it even better. Suspension and steering are definitely an area for improvement. Here are the mods that came with the car as is, plus a new black interior:
Upgrades Completed
Southside Lower control arms
3.73 Gear
Eibach Spring kit
Subframe Connectors
Aluminum Drive shaft
Headers
BBK X-Pipe
Flowmaster cat-back
Gun Metal powder coated Pony Wheels
Cold Air Intake
BBK 70mm Throttle Body
New Aluminum Radiator
150 AMP Alternator

Thanks, just had it inspected by Paul's Automotive Engineering, it's a solid car. No rust or damage to speak on the underside. Next steps, removing bolt on sub-frame connectors in favor of PAE's boxed full length welded design, 03/04 Cobra Steering Rack, Kenny Brown Strut Tower Brace, Maximum Motorsport Steering shaft and Tie Rod ends... rear brake disk conversion is next spring I think, followed by Top End H/C/I upgrade.

Yea. The flexi-flyer chassis with shitty steering, interiors, brakes, suspension, door/window/top seals, electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, leaking engines, and fragile whining transmissions. At least the rear end is fucking solid LOL.
A nice notchback looks so killer though IMO. It's worth fixing all that. The new stuff is so huge and heavy.

Name off all the down sides to 03-04 cobras next. LOL. Or I can, up to you. JK.

Haha, I see opinions are still like assholes, even on a site of mustang brotherhood... to each his own. However, I must point out that your cobra is still a Fox at heart, which is why I bolted on the 03-04 steering kit. The best advantage of the older Fox is power to weight, along with lower maintenance and repair costs. Even if you have more work to do its still more cost effective fun.

Yea, no shit man. I know all about the fox chassis. Owned a 78 Fairmont built in the first week of Fox chassis production in 1977. Complete with the "shared" coolant / washer reservoir and onion heads.

Mine's been 100% flawless since day 1- but, thanks anyways.

But this says it all! Still hard to beat the looks of a clean coupe and how light and nimble they are compared to the newer chassis. Technology has long advanced but they cant seem to get the weight down. You put the 420 hp or even the 390 of the Cobra in a light fox chassis and they will fly.

Well, I’m living out the reality of the stock Fox again... blew 3rd gear up about 5 weeks ago. Pic on the day it happened. After a car show in Middletown.

Just about ready to get her back on the road... kept the T5 and upgraded it with a G-Force rebuild. RAM billet flywheel, HDX clutch and new pro 5.0 shifter. Still waiting the neutral sensing switch that got messed up on removal. Should be finished mid week...

Car looks good!
In the rebuild kit it came with a 26 spline input shaft?
Frisby5.0
08-03-2019, 12:35 PM
thanks!
Yes the kit did convert it to a 26 spline.
All new timken bearings, 1-4 G-Force gears, blocking rings, 1-2 and 3-4 sliders, fork pads, rear bearing billet plate reinforcement a few other items as well + labor to install the total was $2500... after multiple quotes and shopping around for a few weeks on several different options it feels like I got the most I could for the money and meets my future plans.

Transmission installed today, all systems functioning and was able to take it for a test drive... 1st through 3rd are definitely whiny and it was a bit warm around the tunnel, I suspect that is due to the more aggressive gear design.... anyone else have any experience with G-force gears?
Next step is to take by the transmission shop for a test drive it since they put it together... hope all is good with it.

The Gforce trans I've had in the dyno were def noisey. I have built several T5s with the A5 gearset from Astro and they are noisey due to a straightening of the helix and thicker teeth on the gears. However, you will never break it. I've got a few coupes, love the body style. Yours is beautiful. Sounds like you have a great plan laid out for it. Please check your torque boxes and replace those southsides with something with urethane bushings in them instead. Jmho. I've seen a lot of nice cars have their torque boxes destroyed by ssm lift bars. They have no give to them, so the sheetmetal flexes instead.

Thanks! And thanks for the info on the g force, definitely good to know and glad to hear it’s worked well for someone else... I’m definitely planning to take care of the torque boxes, that was my concern too when I got the car and saw the SSM lowers, they’re still in good shape at this point. Not making enough power to tear them up yet... [emoji23]

Just normal driving will destroy the torque boxes using those ca, unfortunately. In stock form, the unequal length ca move both up and down and in sort of an eleiptical orbit side to side. The ca you have don't allow the side to side and the torque boxes flex to allow the normal range of movement. Hope that makes sense. Easier to explain inperson than typing. Lol.

Jmho, but lose the HV oil pump and run a std volume. HV is a chevy thing. Fords don't need it. It'll wear the cam and dist gears from the added load. Again, jmho. Everything else sounds good.

Interesting, I never used one before, but was reading and talking to some folks that said it wouldn’t be a bad thing to do... at min I was figuring I at least need an upgraded shaft ... thanks for the info.
