View Full Version : 2018 Dirty Dozen Challenge List Discussion (Proposed Rule Changes)

THE DOZEN MASTER

Alright folks, this thread is to discuss rules and other matters for the Challenge List. Mike had asked towards the end of last season what you guys thought of the list and what, if any, changes you might like to see. I've been given a couple of suggestions that I'm going to throw out there and see what everyone's thought are so we can get the rules out. The rules don't have to change, if you decide ultimately that they stay the same then they will stay the same. The tracks will be opening soon so let's hash all of this out and get ready to do some racing! :bigthumb

Also, the hope is to get at least 3 shootouts going this year, as that seems to be where most of the action happens and everyone has a really good time. I know many of you have expressed concerns of running one of these at Kil Kare, but they are under new management, and I believe a couple of the team are what I'd call real "car guys", 2 of the 3 are on this site, so maybe we can get something going there at some point this year that they could help us out with and it won't be such a cluster #*$!?

Ok, here goes, one suggestion I got was to have it to where to get on the list you'd have to first challenge someone in spots 6-12 and beat them, once on the list, you could then challenge for any other spot. Another one was to make it where to get on you'd have to challenge someone in 6-12 and then beat them, 6-12 would kind of be a free for all to speak, in that, 12 can challenge 6 at any time, or say 11 challenges 7, but to get into the top 5, you can only challenge up to 2 spots above yours, so 7 could only challenge 5 to get there and 6 could challenge either 5 or 4. Once in the top 5 you can only challenge up to 2 spots above your current spot. Probably sounds kind of confusing but if you really look at it it's not as confusing as it sounds in written form. I think the one thing Mike would like to stay away from is having the 12 spot being a "gate keeper", so to speak, he's just not a fan of the concept. Anyway, give us some feedback, with your own ideas as well, and get everything worked out so we can get the rules posted. Thanks!

I like this but I suggest 1 step moves only when challenging up once spot 6 is achieved. A person wanting on the list, who has a fast car, simply calls out 6. From there on it's one spot at a time. A person with a slower car wanting on the list challenges 9 and wins, he can challenge up to number 6 only but no higher. From 6 position up it's one spot challenges.

I think 1 or 2 steps up at a time in the top 5 makes sense. I am ok with however we vote to do that part. I think it will force guys to come out more to move up the list instead of waiting until september and call one guy out to get the position they want. I like it. And it will provide more racing. Also 3 shootouts sounds like a great idea.

I also like no less than three shootout rounds as required appearances and would up that to 6. Forces people to have to show up at least once a month to defend their spot or risk getting bumped clear off the list.

Definitely needs to be a rule change somewhere. I defended my 6 spot atleast 3 times last season. Hanging in there by a thread. (Thanks steve) haha. An missed the shootout an now #11.

Shootouts would be the same format they've been woth the exception of newbs having to race 6 thru 12 to access the list. As Chad stated, this keeps people showing up to keep their spot.

Depends on the new rules. You may have to prove yourself by running a 6 or slower first. Personally I haven't seen you at the track enough to consider giving you that shot even if the rules stand as they are.

I'm not interested in making the list. When I joined this site, you made a commitment about my screen name being 10secvwbeetle. You said 10 second beetle, you would have to see that. Well I'd love to show you.

Hopefully a little faster this year. 150lbs lighter, more compression, better heads. Going for a 6.50-6.60 this year.

Kilkare should really do well this year with the new group of people running it. The track and the prep is so much better than E2O. I like the shade though that E2O has.

Fixed it for you. Comment not commitment.

I've seen plenty of 10 second 1200 pound VW's. AZN's dungbeetle is likely even quicker than that. I enjoy seeing him eat big dollar cars up with it on Street Outlaws. That said, German Engineering in any form does nothing for me.

Yes I have seen your car sitting at E20 a time or two. I've not seen it run a 10 however. This is a mustang website. IT's not a VW website. You are MORE THAN WELCOME to be here. I am cool with that. But when you sign up as 10secvwbeetle expect to get slapped around a bit verbally. If I went to a Corvette website and signed up as 10secMUSTANGGT I would expect a pretty snotty welcome.

Enjoy the site.

Awww did I hurt your wittle itty bitty feewings? Where a jacket at the track. With skin that thin you'll catch cold in ambient air temps below 85 degrees. Jumping on a mustang website and naming one's self "10secvwbeetle" and immediately expecting people to kiss your ring finger like you were the Pope and NOT razz you a little bit is as egotistical as it gets. 6 posts on the site and you want to start things with call outs you won't even back up. Getting your tighty whiteys in a wad over nothing.

When I see the car go 10's as you claim or even a slip posted showing it I will believe it. Shouldn't be hard. I've seen other 1000 lb beetles do the same thing. You're not the pioneer of this idea. Guys have been doing this with VW bugs for years. Until then keep removing weight, keep increasing the NO2, and make it happen. Lip service doesn't prove the car can do it.

10secvwbeetle
03-02-2018, 09:02 AM
Lol. My feelings aren't hurt one little bit. I'm doing this because I was told that your easily worked up. : )

I don't need your eyes for approval that my car runs 10's. I know that my car that I built myself, runs 10's. My car that weighs 1800 pounds, not 1000.

Funny you keep saying that I should expect to catch shit from guy's on a non VW website. I'm on at least 6 non VW websites, including a corvette one. Your the only one that has anything smartass to say.

I'm just interested in racing. I was told that you would be a good race, so I said that I wanna call you out. But if you wanna make it a pissing match because your scared of a car that has less cc's than your supercharger, you can go pound salt.

I'm here. He can make it official any time he wishes to come down and make a pass...assuming he can maintain his lane. I've never seen the car make a hit. So I have no idea how it leaves, or how he responds if it starts toward a wall or the center line. I should be there doing some testing soon after the track gets above water, cleaned up, and opened. Being beat has never bothered me.Wouldn't be the first time. I'm open with my ET's and how the car runs. No grudge car or hidden sand bagging here.

Well what do you know. You're still here. Thought you were "over and out". You have an ego and a little drama prince in you after all. And I stand corrected. Bing showed curb weight on a VW beetle at 1500 pounds when I looked it up out of curiosity. I see that was on a 1950 model not a later model. I admit when I am wrong. That's another sign of being an "a$$hole" I suppose. Either way 1650 (after 150 pound weight reduction you spoke of) in comparison to 3919lb with my full weight street vehicle. Motorcycles are quick because they weigh nothing. VW's when setup right can be fast because they weigh nothing to begin with. Doesn't take a physics Ph.D. to do the basic calculation of HP to MASS ratio. Anytime you are down feel free to step over and make an offer to run. I don't run for money btw. I run for fun. So if you're looking to be one of those types who are out "fishing" for some cash, that won't happen. OVER and OUT.

draggin50

Im almost for keeping them as they are. The bottom part of the list is mostly those that haven't or don't make it out very often and are spot fillers so to speak. I do like the idea of having a couple of the races at Kilkare if we can get them off. I know its a lot harder to do there than at Edgewater. Maybe with Charlie on board there, it can happen. Time will tell.

I like the rule changes. I think those of us that were at the track often and were active on the list like the idea of more shootouts. Most weeks it was the same group of us and we got a little tired of racing each other over and over while half the list was never there. Shootouts and calling 1 spot at a time forces guys to come out and race with us on more than just the last few weeks.

I agree steve. Was the same few people battling it out all year. I realize some others race events an want to save the wear an tear on the cars. I look at it as good testing on Fridays only 1 race that counts an better be dialed in for it! left the car strapped on the trailer many times to run UMTR next day haha

NXcoupe

Ok. So I like the top 6 are shielded from a one hit wonder coming in and shaking up the list. I also am going to pick 3 dates out for shootouts with the std shootout rules with no changes there with the exception of the list being locked only after the final one. Once on the list, calling out no more than 2 spots up, meaning if you are 11, you can call out 9 or 10. That makes more racing and a little more effort to get up the list.

These are the proposed changes and if no objections I will get them written in.
