That is a small block windsor. But i have also considered a big block. But this was not for my street cobra it would be for a race car i am starting to work on this year.

Deck height is 9.5” but i come from old school mustang heritage and its not a big block unless its FE or 385 series block. My dad has raced 390 or 428 FE big blocks for years and has had several 429 or 460 cars through the decades. They are definitely different than the windsors. One could maybe put up an argument for clevelands or 400m being a big block or mid block because of parts shared with the 385s. I am not one of those people though. When you hear a 428 or 460 with a cam you will not mistake it for even a big cube windsor. They are a different animal. Not necessarily faster or more powerful. But definitely different.

He's trying to state that it's a Big Block based on CI, that's the justification. As we all know though, there are a few manufacturers out there that built a factory small block with more CI's than that 393. Hhhmmm, just saying.

Right. Ford was one with a 400m. Most racing bodies make the call at 420 ci. And even then its not a big block. They just dont get weight breaks that a small block gets. Big blocks are pretty specific to me. But if a persons reference point is merely a 281 ci modular or a 302 ci/5.0l sbf. Those other motors seem big. Even a 347 sbf has nearly 70 ci on my poor little lincoln engine. That is 25% more air and fuel to be stuffed in. But that does not make it a big block. It just means mine is still really small. Haha. Story of my life i guess...

There were also smaller CID sized big blocks. The 352 and 360 are FE engines that were part of the early era of the FE BB series back int he late 50's. Upon researching my memory I learned that the first FE series BB engine was actually a 332 CID. It along with the bigger 352 (longer stroke, same bore) were released in 1958. The 360 came sometime later and used the shorter 332 stroke but with a larger piston bore.

As for the Cleveland engine (my personal old school fave...nothing like a 351C 4V), I will always see it as the one and only ever mid block. Sorry guys but the M series blocks of the mid 70's were gutless IMHO and are not worthy of being placed in the same class as the Cleveland. That is my personal biased opinion on the Cleveland v M series comparison.

So i guess to bring myself back to topic, that doesnt belong to anyone here. So the block discussion is the most info we might get. Worthy discussion though. I now know i run a super small block. :)
