View Full Version : Big Decision, New Job

Well, I was faced with a big decision this past summer. I was approached by a headhunter for a position with a large corporation. I had been approached twice before for the same company and both times they got my hopes up and then never heard another word from them. So when they called this time, I was a bit skeptical, but after talking with my wife, I decided it was worth a shot. I went through the process and this time I got an offer which I accepted.
First off, before I go any further, I am not closing my shop, so the haters can settle down. It has gone back to being a part time gig, like it was when I started it, and it was never supposed to be a full time deal anyway.
So, back to the job. The company that was after me is FCA, aka, Chrysler corp. Yep, that's right, the big one in Michigan, Auburn Hills to be exact. I am working out of a regional training center in West Chester, which is one of about 30 nationwide. I travel some, had to travel a bunch in the beginning, but I am always home on weekends which is nice. I also get a different car to drive every 3 weeks or so, which makes it very nice. I haven't bought gas for any of my cars in 5 months. lol. I am a technical trainer, I train technicians about our vehicles and how to service them. My specialty is the electrical and electronics on our vehicles along with the chassis and suspension systems. This week I am teaching high voltage safety, which we use 400V on our PHEV and BEV's. I'm currently driving a Fiat 500X, which is a decent car to run around in.
Why did I decide to do this? Well, we want a house. I want a large shop behind the house and move all my stuff into that so I can have one set of bills to pay instead of a pair of everything.
I waited a while to tell everyone because I wanted to make sure it was going to stick. I am really liking it, and I don't think that will change. We also have a hellcat engine on the stand we use in our engines classes. I'll be moving into that realm after I get all the electrical courses under my belt.
Anyway, just wanted to share some good news with you, as I rarely get to see y'all through the winter time.

Thanks everyone! Actually the fiats are not bad cars. I kind of like the crossover I am driving now. But I've driven a bunch of cars so far. The pacifica minivan is the family favorite, but my favorite so far is the grand cherokee. That thing is nice. I also liked the 1500 with the eco diesel.

Cool, my wife wants a minivan now since all my friends are getting one. I would of rather bought one when she got her new Crv.I was hoping to have her drive that for at least 7-10 years. The Pacifica looks pretty nice considering it's a minivan.

Yep and they are quick for what they are. My wife was shocked when I matted it the first time.

Definitely a cool place. I really enjoyed the grand tour when I met you there a couple months back on that T5 trans. Glad you found something fun and beneficial.

Yep. Was up there in December. We stayed across the street from the SRT group building. Very nice area up there. We enjoyed it, Donna went with me.

On Featherstone. Very cool building. I rolled through the parking lot and saw the viper nose in the lobby, but didn't get to go in.

Yep, exactly, we stayed at the hilton there. Diagonally from the old silverdome. What do you do up there?

I work for a raw material supplier. I'm a project manager on the auto team, so I head to our sales office up there every few weeks.

Shoot me a PM and if our timing ever crosses up there I'll buy you a beer.

I hear there's lots of auto events when it warms up. I'm going to try to catch some races at Milan when time allows.

Will do. I am not scheduled back up there for the next two scheduling cycles, so possibly in april/may might be up that way. Always up for a beer. Thanks!

Since I think I'm the only one with FCA ties, welcome! I'm pretty tight with Patrick, the regional sales trainer. That's a good dude to drink beer with. They've been a great company so far, and are super big on training. Now that I'm in Bowling Green, I get to speak to SRT reps on the weekly...
