Garage floor.

What's going on guys been away for a bit. Guantanamo bay then the police Academy and moving to glorious hamilton ohio. Anyways I bought a house got the blue car home now I'm looking for some experience and opinions.

I got a 30 by 20 detached garage I'm turning in to a place so fine mother Teresa would be proud to turn a wrench in it. Currently looking at r13 in the walls r19 on the ceiling 3/4 in osb on the walls and 1/4 on the ceiling.

The main concern is the floor concrete is 30 years old and cracked in spots. There is a 3 inch lip all the around. My options are fix the cracks and epoxy the floor for around 4k or fix the cracks and paint the floor. Or seal the floor and get a mat that cover the whole thing for 1200 bucks. I'm worried about hot tire pick up. Also the less I spend the better I'm going to try and turbo the mustang this winter.

I'm running conduit and I'm going to have ac heat out there. So if anyone has any ideals of how to make this thing a nice year round spot or things they would do different let me know. Hopefully when I get the house squared away we can have a get together. At minimum it can be another beer drinking spot for some local guys. That's if any of you all live on the west side of hamilton.

Soo if anyone has some hints or tips of what they did or would do different let me know... I'm looking at rustolum professional kit for the floor. Anyone ever use it... any do it yourself people coat your floor.

Prep is everything but I would pass on any consumer grade products. The previous owner of our house put some sort of epoxy on 2/3 of he garage floor that I had ground off. Then they put three coats of Sherwin Williams epoxy on it. I ended up paying about $5.25 per square foot installed but the end product was worth it.

Superior Hard Surface Solutions did the work and did a great job. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. The owner, Jeb even brought out a rep from Sherwin Williams to make sure we were going to get the desired results.

Hey Cam, with the media added for traction, how hard is it to clean up fluid spills? Oil, transmission fluid, etc.
I've often wondered how a jack rolls across it too.

It cleans up pretty well. It's really not as gritty as it looks.

I also got my floor coating thru garage journal website. I believe the stuff I did was armorpoxy. It has been on my floor for a year and still looks perfect. You can get a big discount if you are a member of those forums. (its free to sign up). Go to that forum and read. It will help a lot.

I used sherwin williams i believe when i did my 5300 sq ft shop. We used diamond floor grinders and then used sandpaper grinder pads to finish it. Then etched the floor with acid and used the epoxy with clear over it. They recommended tinting the clear. Worat decision i made. Should have left it clear. It would have looked so much better. Paunt adhered well for the most part. Certain spots where oil had stained it so badly even grinding couldn't clean it eventually lifted in some areas. Lots of money and tons of time.
