Ok I have a stock 92 lx 5.0 coupe that I am going to put a on3 turbo kit on but I live at least 2 hours from anyone that can tune the car and I don't have a truck or trailer to haul it, if I buy a blow thru meter cal'ed for my injectors and lock my timing around 18-20 degrees and keep an eye on my afr would it be safe to drive it on 6psi to get the bugs worked out and make it to a tuner

Id say yes as long as you keep an eye on the A/F ratio. I wouldn't run it much though and try to stay out of boost. One mistake and you'll have problems.

I'd think whoever you have tune it would be able to get you a good enough base tune for you to drive it to them. Just as Brian said though you'll have to baby it there.

So many views yet so little response, I thought some people in here tune cars and could give a little input, I know the situation is not ideal but I live in bfe so I can't go 30 minutes down the road to someone. How did the old school guys tune these cars before all the fancy methods now days I just need to get by until the bugs are worked out like boost leaks and so on.

Old school guys tuned with a screwdriver and a carb.
But yeah, as others said, get a decent base tune mailed to you and drive it like a camry there.

Back then we pulled timing and bumped up fuel pressure depending on the jets we had in!! I was to poor for a blower and not many turbo kits was out yet.

My point was boost is boost even though it may be achieved in a different manner and there have been centrifugal blowers out since before the efi foxbody made it's debut and they didn't have piggy back chips to tune the cars, I'm not looking to leave it untuned but I don't want to waste time and money taking to a tuner and having issues arise that potentially cost me an arm and a leg. I guess I will lock the timing around 20 degrees or set it at 5 degrees base and put the spout back in and see how it goes!

If you have enough common sense not to lean on the car untuned, you'll be fine to drive it to your tuner. Guys used to also use an FMU for extra fueling and sometimes lock the timing without the spout.

I can mail u a chip with a base tune provided you have a pro m meter cald for the injectors. Get a pro tube in 3" and cut the on3 tube to put it in with another coupler. I've tuned quite a few of these like this and they work really well, easy to tune. I drive one of these combos now and race it. Then set your timing to 10 with spout out and after u put chip in, put spout back in. Then when are able to, drive it to me. Hope that helps.

Blown96 cobra had a turbo foxbody once,I'd ask him who to take it to,I know he had issues getting it tuned, you may want to just tow it to whomever you get to tune it!
