So, as today drags slowly on, three Chrysler product salesmen come up with a bet: Who can buy/build the fastest car for $1,000. The stipulations: 1)can spend no more than $1,000 total, including the vehicle. 2) No one can buy anything alone. All 3 of us must go as a group. And finally, 3) it must be a Ford product.
As we all abandon hopes of selling anything Mopar for the day, craigslist lights up 3 seperate devices. Late in the evening one tells me he found a Capri for cheap, and we call the owner. Somehow, he and I end up in NKY to look at this thing. We've shelved our bet for a night, as we both love foxes. It's 10:30 at night, dark and under a tarp sits this unknown potential project that we've not even seen pics of. I pull the tarp back to reveal the bubble hatch on a white 1986 Capri, and I'm greeted by a window sticker that reads: "in memory of vinny five-oh" with the avatar. While I'm not fortunate enough to have known Vinny, I know this car was associated with SBZ, and I decided at that moment, this car was to be ours, and put back on the road again.
We reveal the rest of an algae-covered car with Cobra emblems on it, TSW wheels, and a wicked looking hood. The plates were expired in '07, and God knows how long the transmission has been removed, but the bellhousing, crossmember and driveshaft are in the car. Inside is the predictable musty smell, but in very good shape. The dash isn't cracked, and white face gauges are installed.
Now comes the good stuff: popped the hood and the eyes are immediately drawn to the Cobra intake, MAF-conversion and shorty headers. Check the oil, it's blacker than poop after Mexican food, but isn't low. Coolant looks like it was refilled yesterday.
We strike a deal with plans to get it tomorrow, so I'll get pics then. I'm unsure if we will keep it, but I'm half-owner with possible plans to buy my partner out, but I'm curious: does this car ring a bell to anybody? What do I have? I'm sure pics will help, but how many white 86 Capris with black hood scoops were owned by 'bangerz?
