Still working on my 86 coyote swap. Figured I'd get the word out for a trans...and if I can get a good deal on an irs I'd like to put that under the csr instead of the sra. From my understanding it's not terribly difficult and something you don't see all the time.

I have an extra IRS Sub-frame I'd let go of pretty cheap to get it out of the garage if you wanted to piece one together with some aftermarket parts. It has upper and lower control arms still attached, mounting brackets for the body, hardware, and a stock set of rear springs. Halfshafts, spindles, knuckles, and pumpkin are gone/sold.

I would also possibly consider selling the IRS that is in the Cobra now, 03 cobra IRS with 82k miles, upgraded to an FRPP diff cover but otherwise all stock. I want to upgrade to a SRA but was planning on just keeping the IRS to swap back in if we ever sold it.

picked up the IRS subframe now i need the parts that go in it. I prefer the 31 spline stuff from the 03/04s. Ebay obviously has it but its stupid expensive and I know it can be had much cheaper.

I would still consider buying a complete IRS if someone had one forsale.

A complete takeout IRS generally goes for about 800-1200 dollars. It's going to be your cheapest route by far, unless maybe you plan to do a ton of upgrades.

If you do want to track down parts:
The diff is not going to be cheap to find separately. Like I mentioned in another thread, the 8.8 IRS diff is used by guys swapping LS engines into the Jap IRS cars (last gen RX7 for example). You can still buy new housings from Ford, but the only ones left aren't even final machined anymore. You cheapest route would be to find would be a Lincoln MKVIII aluminum housing. You could also run a cast iron Tbird diff too- they are a bit stronger, but don't dissipate heat very well.

Used half shafts are always snatched up quickly and are of unknown condition, new ones are $400+ each, rebuilt ones are crap. I'd take my changes with used ones from junkyards on Ebay.

Knuckles/hubs are pretty expensive too $450 each for new. Used ones could easily have hub or bearing issues. I'd at least buy new bearings and hubs for a used pair of knckles, and press 3" ARP studs in the hubs before installing in the bearings.

Control arms are pretty cheap, you can pick them up on Ebay.

I have an 03 IRS I would sell, but it's missing the diff, front diff support and half shafts. It has the cradle, arms, sway bar, body mount brackets, tie rods, knuckle/hub and even a pair of rusty rotors. I'd let it go for around $400. The value is in the knuckles/hubs.

Yeah If I could find one complete I would buy it. For now the cradle I have will get me started on building a good base. I can get it cleaned and repainted...new bushings and then if I find a complete irs I will swap all the required parts.

Yeah I am familiar with them. I was planning on them for some parts and bushings. Not going to be a drag car so I have to find a good balance between durability and what I'm using the car for which will be primarily a driver.

The FRPP diff cover is a must. Braces are OK, but the cover will leak eventually. Otherwise, you can set it up like a stock 2003 cobra setup and it'll be quite durable. Stock half shafts are strong. The bushing upgrades are just to keep it all in line so to speak. With over 500 RWHP, I can feel it squirming a little bit around back there at WOT. If you are in the 400 RWHP and below range, stock 03 bushings are fine.

My buddy has a whole lincoln independent rear and a 01 cobra rear laying at the shop.

I'd be interested to hear what he wants for the 01 cobra...and if it included brakes? I've been told the older cobra irs go really cheap considering the 28 spline shaft.

Lincoln stuff isnt the same. Only thing that will work is the aluminum differential housing. Everything else is non interchangeable. 01 Cobra's had 28 spline axles and center section. The good stuff to get is definitely the 03-04 with the 31 spline stuff. I also think there were issues w/ the older IRS cars... something about the spindles?

If you're on Facebook there's an irs on "03-04 Cobra parts for sale" page. $1600.

28 spline aside, at least the 01s have the pinion support bar. The 99's don't.
