Anyone running e85? I have a carbed 351 that I'm thinking about converting. Just wondering what's needed to convert and if there are any cons to running it?

several guys on here are running pump e85. I have run it with efi for the last 5-6 years. You will need to either buy a carb already setup for e85 or have your's converted over for it. You may need to go to a bigger fuel pump. Is your car more street or strip? What is your engine combo spec's? What fuel do you run now..pump 93?

It's a .30 over 351. Running edlebrock victor jr heads and intake with 11.5-1 compression. It's also a solid roller motor.I'm running a Holley blue electric fuel pump and yes running 93 pump gas. Currently has a demon 750 carb but also have a Holley 850dp that I was thinking about converting to run with the e85. Mostly a street car but is driven hard on the street lol and do occasionally take it to the track. Appreciate the feed back!

I'm running it in my Mach1, I only ran it a few times last year and it broke. I just got it back a couple weeks ago and haven't even been able to drive it yet. I've been running Renegade E85 instead of pump. When I was building my car I did some homework and the quality of the pump E85 can vary greatly especially with seasons. So to stay more consistent I just decided to stay with Renegade.
Issues I've seen so far, my car eats tons of the stuff. I'm running a BB Stoker 4v with a YSI at 15lbs and I would be afraid to go more than 50 miles away from the house. We originally built it with an A1000 fuel pump and I think 80lb injectors. During tuning it ran out of fuel pump and injectors around 600hp so we upgraded to an Eliminator pump which got us close to 700 then we ran out of injectors so we up graded them to ID2000s.
When my car was in getting all new timing gear they noticed a couple of the injectors weren't functioning correctly so they sent them out to be cleaned and it seems to run fine now. Keep in mind everything on the car is new so it had to be the E85 clogging them from sitting? That's with just dyno tuning and about 100 street miles.
The Renegade stuff smells like hell, it literally will make me sick if I smell it enough.

Ive run pump stuff with success, but I run it with EFI and I have three tunes, 93, E85 and E70. That way I can switch around as I please. My new project on my coupe with a turbo 4 cyl will run it as well.
Yeah Robert, I had to clean my filters out the first couple hundred miles a couple times from all the crap loosened up in the tank. After that, never an issue for 2 years or more with lots of sitting through the winter.

Is it difficult to tune? Cause I'm running a carbed setup

Mike would have to answer that, I'm EFI but there were no problems tuning it. I cant imagine why it would be different than gas.
If you haven't done so already I would suggest doing a lot of research on E85 issues.

We run E85 in Jeff Lange's, Zach Simmons', and Chuck Devault's 8.5/X235 cars as well as several fast street cars. None of them have ever had an issue. If class rules would allow there are several more of us that would be running it...

Do yourself a favor and search on Yellowbullet.com for E85 carb, then contact one of the two or three guys that do that for a living. They will convert the carb and get it very close for your setup. Then get it on one of the dyno's in the area and dial in the a/f with jetting.
