As if my distributor going bad wasn't enough, I did find a hell of a deal on an msd dist from a gentleman who races over in the xos series. So I go to change it tonight, I hear a clank as I pull out the wore out one, go to set the new in and the damn oil pump shaftt is gone. Right to the bottom of the pan. So now either the front of the motor comes apart, or the motor comes out. It's only worse because I still have the 65 to finish and a motor to change in the wife's expedition. What's next?

Yeah that blows, a lot of work for what started out as such a simple task.

Damn sounds like my luck!!! Those pain in the ass clips on them are usually there so when you pull the distributor that it stays in the pump. But then it has to be installed from the bottom... All mine are removed too!!!

Try an extension magnet. I had luck getting one out that way. A little time and patience, but it came out.

Tried the magnet for 2 hours. I will certainly try again. On the other hand, this would be a good time to get bigger valve springs, bigger cam and get someone to work over these heads.
I'm thinking cook out time, I buy all the food, get as many people as I can, knock out the 65 and help get a good start on the expedition.

Decided to pull front end apart to get shaft out. Figured I'd change timing chain while I was there. Just because. Got it apart, was turning motor over to align dots, then it froze. Wouldn't turn either direction. Lifted the motor, dropped the pan, found the shaft between a crank journal and main cap. Was a night mare to get out.

Probably a blessing in disguise that the oil pump shaft dropped into the pan !!! That balancer has seen better days.....

Absolutely nothing that no one else does to there's. It all started with a distributor upgrade. Went all down hill since.

Slowly getting it pieced back together. 2 spacers short and I'm there.
