Just saw on the news where a gun shop owner turned over confidential documentation to police on 165 customers. This was done at police request backed by a threat to perform a SWAT raid for the documents if the owner did not turn them over. Police claimed they were searching for illegally altered AR15 "assault weapons" (a media/politician invented term). The owner in the interview stated that his AR15 products complied and had been approved by the FBI for sale based on submitted design. Yet the man to "buy time" turned over sensitive customer info like a limp noodle. Now he seeks a 2nd amendment legal specialist to fight it. And yes this did happen in NY. So similar acts may be coming to a gun store near you.
IS YOUR GUNSHOP OWNER AS LIMP DICKED AS THIS GUY? This is a sad day. I only hope my gun store owner has more spine than this guy did. I believe he does and woud burn his place before letting this happen.

I read that article on Facebook a few days ago and I'd have to say I'm on the fence with this one. It's easy to say I'd do this or that but this guy isn't Cabella's or BassPro. He probably can't sustain any type of legal battle against the govt. The poor guy probably has spent his life building his business and supports his home and family off it. Whats he supposed to do?
I'm just surprised the govt somewhere doesn't already have this information. Doesn't the back ground check have the serial numbers on it? Cant the govt just go off the serial numbers to see whats been sold?
Also this is exactly why I buy unregistered weapons, they day they come knocking I don't own shit.

^^^ Was curious of your perspective on this. I questioned the gun shop I last bought from about what they would do in an exact situation like this back two years ago when I bought my first registered weapon from them. I hope they stick to their word. Of course we all know what a person says he/she would do in a given situation never in before may be different if/when it would happen. I do fell sorry for the guy. He will lose a lot of business which may cost him his means of supporting his family in the end for having caved. I see it more of a damned if he did, damned if he didn't situation. I do believe people would now think twice of doing business with him. I know I would never do business again with a dealer who caved like this whether it was my 411 or other clients. And like you I may or may not own weapons other than this one registered I recently purchased. One never knows.
Thanks for the feedback. Have a good week.

Need more info. The FBI has nothing what soever to do with approving firearms designs.
Did he turn over all records or just records in regard to those who purchased the modified AR15s?
Sounds like they have a questionable AR design under New Yorks Safe Act and know it so keep keep out of as little hot water as possible they turned over sales records for the ARs in question and not all sales documents.
Large difference between the two but again need many more details.
But on a side note I could give two flips if they turn over my forms it isn't a secret I own guns.

^^^ Not sure on the details. The design was approved for sale on a federal level according to the report. But for whatever reason the state had their tit in a ringer over something with regard to the product after the fact. Therefore they sought information on the sales of the weapons. I don't recall if the angle played by the officials was a technicality to get 411 on more than just those who bought these weapons or if it was merely to confiscate these weapons from the rightful owners who purchased them on what was to be legal terms.

Makes no difference if the Feds (ATF) approve the design that only holds water on the Federal level.
You and I are lucky to live in states where generally if it is legal Federally you are golden on the state level.
NY and it's gun laws are worlds different.
If my fairly small collection which is 100% legal on Federal and States levels where I live were to cross the border to a state like NY, CA, NJ, MA, etc. I'd be a felon who knows how many times over and that would be mere possession.
This guy is looking at possession, manufacturing, and trafficking.
I don't understand how anyone can live in these states and be a gun owner. I applaud these folks that try to make these weapons align with state law, but anytime you are the first to do it you had better have your ducks in a row because I promise you have painted a target on your back for the politicians.
Again, I don't know the facts, if you could post an article or something that would help greatly.

This is something on it. I caught the story on a news channel Saturday morning. As you state the issue is with respect to state code. Like you I would never reside (don't even like to travel there) in NY. Appears he may have been caught off guard by some bill or amendment change that passed quietly as so many things do these days. Happened today in NY. Could be coming soon to a gun shop near you. Things that shape into law in CA or NY find their way inland eventually in many cases. Resident beware.

I live in Ky. No need to worry about that nonsense happening here on the state level.
Last year was a very positive year for progun laws in Ky all were introduced by Democrats.
