View Full Version : WHO HAS THE DEAL ON A BASIC SNEL RACE HELMET???

Finally going to be on Dayshift here in about two weeks so I will be able to make a pass or two at E20. In the past my whimpy DOT helmet was getting me through tech (easily at E20 and barely with some questions at TT), but I hear now that E20 as well as TT are really beginning to crack down on those requirements. Not complaining, only making observation. So I need to get one.
Where can I pick up a simple black open face SNEL rated helmet at a reasonable price? I don't compete and just like to make a pass on occasion so it doesn't have to be fancy, full faced and custom painted and have my autograph on the side. Are the motorcycle shops reasonable? Or do I seek out Cincy Speed, or Jegs or Summit? Thanks.
Guess the other question is what brand would be best for price in my application???

The one I bought for power tour was like 160 from summit. No locals kept them in stock and was on time crunch

Looks like you can use a motorcycle helmet. Might try Cycle Specialties....I haven't had any dealings with them, but I've heard good things about them.

Thanks Jeff. I'll google them and see what they have. Appreciate the specs as well.

I got a basic one from jegs. Went up there and tried it on. Then took it home.

Thanks Jon. Will give them a call. I'd almost consider a used one if the linings were removable for washing and someone had one that wold meet the current SNEL requirements for 10-13.99 cars.

Chad, I have a helmet that I no longer use if you would like to check it out. It does have the removable lining if my memory serves me correct, just let me know.

Sounds good Shayne. Doesn't have to be fancy. PM me a price and a time to look at one Sat (this sat wold work for me). It does have to be SNEL M2005 for better otherwise they won't let me use it. That's what happened with the other one I had when they started crackign down. IT's just DOT and not SNEL rated M2005 or higher IAW NHRA rules now for 10.00-13.99 cars. Thanks much.

Mine is Snel M2005, it's not solid black though. Lol
Saturday will work if that's what you want, I could meet sooner if you want?

Saturday will work Shayne. Doesn't have to be black, just don't want something that looks like it should be worn by a NHRA pro. I'm just a guy wanting to have a little fun once in a while. PM me your address again. I'm the buyer so I will come to you. Thanks.

Where I got my HJC open face helmet, took two days for order due to my large head.
