So my clutch in my 2000 GT is starting to slip, I was unsure so I had Tommy (rtvickers) drive it and he said it's defiantly starting to. My question is what aftermarket clutches are good and what's better stage 1 or stage 2? I have been looking at the Spec stage 2 and it seems to have good reviews and Tommy also said he has a Spec in his "slow" cobra and likes it. Thanks in advanced

I had a RAM clutch in a fairly quick 97 GT, and it survived weekly drag strip visits, street racing and nitrous launches. I'd buy one again.

Exedy Mach 500 is good. Center Force Dual Friction is good. Had both and liked both. McLoed RST I had but wasn't impressed...THAT SAID I recently spoke with a McLoed tech rep (not a sales rep) at NMRA and he explained to me why I had issues. Had to do with the FW I chose. He explained why. Said I should have stayed factory or looked at a McLoed. I have new faith in their product line. Further another guy on here is running the very clutch out of mine in his cobra and said it is doing well. Light pedal and holds 800 T. Likely overkill for your app and possibly your pocketbook.
If you are running bolt ons only and have no intentions of making full slick 6000 RPM launches you will likely be well off to stay factory or look at Exedy Mach 400 OR Spec stage 1 or 2.

I was very pleased with my Spec Stage 2 clutch behind the 347 N/A and NOS. Currently getting ready to use the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch.

I think that's what I'm in between the Exedy 400 and the Spec stage 2, just waiting a few weeks to build up someone funds because I'll probably go ahead and get a new flywheel at the same time

I've had a Spec 3 and it was fine once I got a good clutch cable. I have a spec stage 1 now with no complaints.

The exedy steel flywheel is lighter than a standard steel FW. Great piece. It gives you the benefits of lighter with the streetability of a steel FW. I love it. On my second one in as many cars.

That's kinda what I figured, if I'm going to do it right the first time lol

I wouldn't go too far over stock. Anything more I feel like you're wasting money. At your power level it would be over kill. Use the extra money for another upgrade on the car. I have to say I had a great time test driving your car. It was a lot of fun. That car is a blast.

I found a Spec Stage 2 for about 200 bucks so I put that in mine after taking out a pos King Cobra and it made a HUGE difference. I have no complaints with it. I researched clutches for a long g time before I bought it and it seems like most of the issues are with the 2+/3+, etc series.

My vote is for ACT. I have run pretty much the equivalent of a stock replacement one since 2008 in my Factory Stock 2V and it is great. Stock pedal feel, has taken a ton of abuse from me at the track, and great customer service. www.advancedclutch.com

Ok thanks guys, and Tommy I don't know how you had fun driving my car haha…but theres new plans in the works for it too other than a clutch…lets see what everyone thinks of this, going to rebuild my brothers 4.6l thats in his 96 GT, and put the heads from my car (PI) on it with a decent cam? He says he's read that a 96-98 4.6l with PI heads has higher compression verses my motor….any input on this is also appreciated, and any good machine shops to have that block redone. Thanks!

PI heads on a NPI shortblock bumps the compression to a little less than 10.5 to one. For the machine work I would say either Barker or BES would be the best choices in the area. If you are going to put new rods and pistons in it be sure to get valve reliefs in the pistons. That will allow a lot more freedom in cam selection. With stock heads and the right cams you should see right about 300-310 HP at the tires which makes for a fun car.

Most people I see doing a stock swap see about 250-265 rwhp depending on if there's a tune involved.
A ton have people on SN95forums have done this and they have a great write up in the how-to section.

My car made 259 RWHP with the PI swap, long tubes, off road H pipe and a tune. It was closer to 270 with all the bolt-ons.

With Comp 270s which were far from optimal it made almost 300 at the tires. The 399 was the initial tuning with the new engine.

That's about what the motor in mine has now, dyno'd at 259hp and 298ft/lb tq, with just a 75mm tb, off road x with super 44s then a tune...I would like to be around 400-500 when I'm done maybe more after a turbo or supercharger...

Well I can tell you exactly what it takes to get to 400 RWHP NA. :)
High compression, TFS heads, a better intake, big cams, and a lot of RPM. Including the transmission and other parts I have about $15K in my car.
With ported PI heads and more street friendly cams 330 RWHP shouldn't be tough to get these days. 38cc TFS heads on a stock NPI or 4V short block on E85 would make more.

TFS heads and big cams not necessarily necessary ;)
LOLZ, Biff might be on to something there.

Well big is a relative term with cams. My cams are big compared to anything offered by comp, crowed, etc. but not when compared to the set I picked up from Brandon. I also think your factory stock engine has a tad more compression than my car and I wouldn't expect it to work real well on regular pump gas.

There are all different ways to skin a cat, none are the 'best', just preferred. Cam's build could have gone a lot of different ways, but I think it turned out pretty good for the wimpy compression it has.

ACT's rock - one of the best clutch set-ups I have ever used!

ACT's are good. I really like the Exedy's. That's what I sell the most of. I can set you up with either of those. Let me know if you'd like pricing on anything.
