Ok, the timing chain on my 99 expedition jumped on the right bank, , needless to say bent valve on that head. I've located an engine out of an 01 f150 which Hollander says is interchangeable with changing intake and exhaust manifolds....I also found a lower mile used 5.4 from a 98 f150. Hollander says it is NOT interchangeable, the salvage yard tells me guys buy the 97, 98 motors and put them in 99, 2000, 2001 models all the time. Any input is greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has a motor , I would rather spend my money here than a junk yard. Thanks !

the 96-98 engines have lower compression and make less power than the 99 and later versions.

That's what I learned last night. They will go right in, just a lot lower power.

Is that because of the non pi heads?

That's what I was explained.

Not just the heads, the heads, cams and intake manifold all combine to produce less power than their PI counterparts.

Understood. I just clumped the heads, cams etc together. That being said, can't find used 5.4 worth my while for the money and miles and stuff, just going to get long block. Thanks for the input !
