I am attempting to do a gear swap in my fox going from fms 4.10 to 3.73 but ran into a problem. The old gears had a .018 pinion shim so i put it on the other pinion and checked the pattern It is on the heel on the drive side and toe on the coast. I have tried everything from a .012 to a .040 shim and the pattern never changed and i kept the backlash between 10-15 thousandths. Anyone have any ideas

Try changing the backlash and see if it changes . The pinion depth changes how deep the pinion goes into the ring gear . Try about 8 on the backlash and see what the pattern does then .
