Ford discontinuing parts...

So my mustang's parking brake is pretty much shot, its been going for a while I think. Have to yank it all the way up to barely hold it on a hill (if you call a small incline a hill). Then this past Saturday pulled it up and felt a pop, well the bolt that holds the front of the assembly broke right through the mounting bracket…now it doesn't hold at all. So my idea was to look online to see if I could find one somewhere, with no luck. Decided to try and call ford to only find out they discontinued it, and a shop in Cincinnati called Green Sales, guy from green sales said they no longer get it, can't find it any where nationally, and the last time they sold one was in 2009. My issue is why would ford discontinue a part that is needed to safely park your vehicle, on top of one that they have had enough issues in the past to issue a recall…SERIOUSLY??? Anyone have any info as to where I could get one?

My buddy works at Ford in parts and he said they discontinue parts after 10 years. He had a guy looking for quarter window parts for a Fox and he found ONE dealer in the nation that had them. They weren't cheap either...

Yeah, thats what I'm afraid its going to turn into. Found a guy on craigslist with one out of a v6 I believe (shouldn't matter???) for 30 if I pull it and 45 if he does, just worry that it'll have the same problems as mine sooner or later. Another thing I was wondering was if an assembly out of a 94-98 would work as well?

If ya need stuff try BL Auto in Frazeysburg (near Zanesville) hes close to me also. He salvages mostly New Edge and some SN95 stuff now I think hes moving on to newer models.

Normally he has shit tons of parts, hes easy to deal with and will ship. Normally he will be at the Columbus Ford Swaps also.

Yeah they dont sell it I recently found out about them and checked there first, I do like that they have a decent amount of factory parts fairly cheap.

Oddly enough my buddy was able to get me a speedo gear housing for my trans. They discontinue the weirdest parts.
