Been shooting a lot of trap/sporting clays. Reloading hasn't really been paying off with the price of shot at $40 per 25lb bag. Thinking about trying to smelt down old lead wheel weights and make my own shot. Has anyone ever done it? Does anyone have large amounts of scrap weights they want to trade for beer?
Lead wheel weights are getting harder to find.

Lol this may sound dumb and you may look silly but look in tire stores parking lots they fall off a lot lol. Or just ask some smaller tire shops.

I used to get them for my father in law, 50 and 100 lbs at a time, I can see if they are still available to me if your interested. Been a couple years but I can ask. They work well reloading.

Yeah, I'm going to go to some local shops and talk to them. Hopefully they don't look at me like I'm crazy. It seems like most places are slowly going away from using lead.

I just scraped out about 500lbs of lead nuts but they have brass inserts. I can hold em but I'm located SE of Columbus

Devious, I'd happily take them, price dependant. Unknown when I'd be able to get them due to my work schedule however.

It's getting harder to find tire places willing to give away wheel weights for free now since there is scrap value to the metal. I know the Bob Summeral tire store my sister use to work at sold their scrap tire weights to the same company that took their used/scrap tires. You may want to try calling some of the scrap metal recycling places around town. I bought ~100# of scrap lead about 2 years ago from green metals for about 90cent a #. Melted it down and cast bricks of it for ballast for my car.

These aren't something I come across everyday but I do get them often and store them till I get a good quantity. I'd have to check what the recycler gave me last time.
