I wanted to let everyone know that I am the new owner of Stangbangerz website and namebrand. Holly asked if I would take it off her hands back in April of 13. I wasn't sure if it was what I wanted to do. I thought about it for quite a while. The paperwork sat on my desk for about 4 months before I decided to sign it and get the ball rolling. It was quite a complicated task, much more so than I anticipated, but worth it in the end I think.
On one hand, I wanted to ensure that my friend's website would continue on and thrive, on the other hand, I didn't know if I could live up to the task nor do I think I'm the man Vinny was. I do know, that I will do my best and do what I think would be the best route for the website and it's members. And mainly that is to listen to what people want and basically let the site go as we collectively steer it.
This site has opened a lot of doors for me and led to a lot of long term friendships. I've met a lot of great people, seen some fantastic cars come from a dream to a blast down the track. Vinny started something fantastic and somehow it got off track. I want it to get back on track, and although it may never be as it was, it can be great in a different way.
I took over officially in December when the last few pieces of the puzzle were set in place, that being the official transfer of ownership of the domain name. Anyone that wanted to see who owned it could have done a DNS search and seen my name as owner. I didn't make a public announcement until now because there were some people I felt needed to be told in person. I started handling that this week. Today I reached out to several people who I think are paramount to this board thriving again. I hope they will contribute and help make this the board we all love and visit daily.
I have begun by unbanning quite a few folks. Vinny had a soft heart, he'd ban someone and then let them back on eventually most times. I feel that banning should be a last resort at keeping the site on course.
Another point I shared today those I visited, is that I don't want this to be a 'for profit' site. If there is money left over after all expenses are paid, then I will put it into a party or trophies for a dyno day, or prizes for a cruise in. I didn't take this over to put money in my pocket. As I informed vendors, the vendor charges are going to be greatly reduced to reflect our appreciation for them supporting and funding a site we all are able to use for free and enjoy. I also informed them of events that will allow them to spotlight their business and hopefully bring them more revenue as a reward for supporting this site.
I want to meet everyone I can that is a member on this board, so you will see me at a lot of the functions that I am able to attend. Remember, I have a young daughter and a wife, along with trying to run a business to support them, but when I have a free minute, it will be gathering with like-minded individuals to bench race, joke around, and talk cars.
There has been a lot of activity in the past few days, I hope that is a precursor of things to come. If anyone wants to speak to me about anything on the site, please feel free. I want to make sure I'm guiding this place in the right direction, although as I said before, I'm not going to be a tight-reigned leader.
Further, I want to add that we all owe a great deal of thanks to Cameron Cstreu, for offering to pay for the hosting for a year, and proceeding with the registration to get the site moved to a host in Indianapolis that specializes in hosting Vbulletin websites and will update our Vbulletin and maintain our site as part of the fee. He's done a lot of work and put his money where his mouth is, and stepped up in a big way. We all owe him a vote of thanks for his efforts.
I also want to say that if you've had an issue with me in the past, I apologize and want to move forward from this point. I don't want anyone to skip an event because they don't want to run into me. I hold no ill will, just give it a chance. I didn't go into business to piss people off, I did it to do a great job and do the best I could for those paying me, and well, being human sometimes that just isn't enough and some end up not happy. If you can let it go, so can I.
Also, if you've never met me, but other people fed you a bunch of info about me, take a minute to come meet me, talk to me, and make your own decision. We all have something in common and I'm not a bad person at all. Give it a chance.
No matter who you chose to take your car to for work, that's your business. You go to who you feel comfortable with, as my customer come to me for that same reason. I haven't been in business since 1994 because I don't know what I'm doing. But enough of that. I just wanted to bring it up and get it off my chest. A fresh start so to speak.
We are a fortunate group to have so many supporting and contributing vendors and those who post tech advice that are in our area. We are very lucky to have so much knowledge in one place. Let's make the site a better place, look out for each other, and as Vinny said, help a brother up, not put him down.
Thanks.
