Well I dislike the 7.3 body style. Looking to spend anywhere from 10 to 15ish. Seen em on Craigslist but either not the body style or ppl have murdered them...

My 2002 looks like a 6.0 ....and its a 7.3 I've seen some nice ones for your price range

You can put front clip off 6.0's on the 99-03 body's..I love the 7.3's ive owned 7 of them, either way get what you want the 6.0's seemed to of fixed alot of there issues in the later years.

true true. i guess i just never got attached to the 7.3 since im young and barely deal with them. the 6.0 to me isnt a bad motor. it has a few issues but besides from ppl who let them sit forever and the idiots the slap a high performance tune on them with no mods they dont have huge issues.

If you look for a while you can find a 7.3 with low miles and the 99 and up Super Duty is a good looking truck. I found a 2000 crew cab dually with 93000 miles on it two years ago. Might pay a little more than the bank says they are worth but it will be worth it.

My vote is for a Cummins. They all have their issues so it's a matter of preference. I would definitely look on the the high side of your budget for one that has had the common issues already fixed. Ford or Dodge.

99-04 looked the same. 05-07 had different headlights, grille and bumpers

Well I'm still looking for a 6 liter. Minds not changing to a 7.3 and if I can find a 03 or newer Cummins in the price range I'd go for it. So if any one sees anything let me know.. Also if it's a 6.0 with issues it fine also I can fix it myself

Id much rather have a 6.0 than a 7.3 . 6L responds way better to mods and tunes than a 7.3 and just seems to run a lot smoother. There was a 06 cc dually on craigslist last week for 6k. Said it wouldn't start. Prolly needed a oil change or ficm.

I love my 04 6 liter. Bought it with 57k on it. Took me two months to find one,but I found a nice one.

Ive had all of em, the 7.3 is definitely a trustworthy workhorse. I only had a few small issues with the 3 or 4 I owned. The 6.0 is definitely a lot better motor when its working. My 04 was awesome, I use them as work trucks and can haul some heavy shit. The problem I had with the 6.0 was every time I loaded it and hit the highway the worry was always in the back of my head that it was finally gonna have an issue and finally one day the HPOP went out loaded heading for WV. Then it seemed like at 80-100k it was non stop issues.

I personally wouldn't buy an 04 look for a later year when they ironed out some of the bugs.

Cummins, enough said, I just traded my 06 3500 on a 11 F450. I don't really like the Dodge trucks but who can put down the motors.

I had a 99 and it wasn't a bad truck at all some ppl turn there noises up at it bc it had the van 7.3

I have had many of them overall, I now have a 6.0

Dodge???? FUK THAT... Cummins good engine, the rest of the truck is garbage, nothing a Cummins does that a powerstroke wont...

all mine been high milers southern trucks look new, my last 2002 7.3 just sold with 392,000 miles....

I have a 2006 6.0 CC now with 309,000 miles, I am about to do injectors one is missing a little aside from that a GREAT truck, already has delete and head studs done, Alabama truck... spotless...

I would entertain selling maybe if I sold I would move up again into a 6.4 truck.... PM me if interested..

Dodge and GM dont look anywhere near as good and not even close to as durable and a SD FORD

I Agree !!! And 99% of the people driving them Never have or Never will tow with them or haul more than kids and groceries !!!

And the young (teenage/20 somethings) people are the worst .. Always doing exactly what you said above ...

And why does a high school kid, Or 20 something living in an apartment need a Crew cab Dually Diesel as a daily driver ???

Just my opinion !!!

I have put 4 6.4 motors in due to minor issues that cause the motor to detonate. 6.7 is the easiest motor to work on in my opinion besides 7.3. Also u have to pull the cab do almost anything to the motor unless u got alot of time to work around everything.

no shot- sorry not wanting a dually.

Yeah the whole roll coal shit is dumb. How is wasting a gallon of diesel fuel to make black smoke cool when its 4 bucks a gallon? I want mine to tow and drive in winter.

Thank the tree huggers for that, emissions kills these things, regen causes cylinder wash and gets into oil, ruins bearings... soon as you remove all that emissions stuff they are great!!!!

I sent PM BTW

I was a tech in the blue oval trenches up until 05. I left the dealership and never looked back due to the warranty pay rates and failure rates of the 6.0. Its not often the a company (ford) drags its subsidiary(navistar) into federal court and judge has to order them to get along. Ive also visited the navistar plant in indy and seen thousands of those piles of shit stacked up to be recycled(in 05). Someone mentions 6.4's and i instantly think navistar had so many shit ideas they had to start a second pile. That powerplant platform made ford a laughing stock and really enforced the acronym found on road dead. I still turn wrenches now except i work on everything. The experience i have gained from my fleet customers i would buy any thing but a ford truck until the release of the 6.7. The last thing I want to do after working on some truck all day is go home and work on my own pos or worry if its gonna let go half way to the lake/campground/racetrack.
The good news for the technician looking to purchase a dead one is its a buyers market with plenty of selection and despite sale prices at dealerships being normal the trucks have virtually no value in the wholesale/auction realm. The buyer at every dealership knows to avoid those turds. Hopefully you find a motivated seller with a clear title in hand.
