My wife's 01 mustang gt conv. Has a bad tick on the driver side back head. It only ticks at a certain rpm. Just looking for. A good shop that's good with modular engines.

Probably a collapsed follower. Relatively common cause for valvetrain noise at lower RPM's.

They make a fancy tool to get the rocker off but you can pop them out with a big screwdriver to change the lifter or whatever fancy name they came up with for them

The followers aren't what makes the noise it's the hydraulic lash adjusters that tend to pump down and not hold pressure like a collapsed lifter, if it gets bad enough the follower could pop out and cause issues like a valve being stuck open and that would be bad

Thanks guys. Hopefully Its that simple. It start making the noise right when the engine gets warm.

I'd definitely replace all of them on the one side making noise. I got a motor laying in my garage that had two lash adjusters stick and it did a world of work to the motor.

It is a fairly easy fix if you have the right tools. Replace all of them while you are in there:bigthumb

Double kudos for these guys. They are awesome, the service after the sale is fantastic and they are reasonable. Brian runs the place, and Brandon Alsept is also there. They specialize in Ford's. Brian is a former Ford Service Tech from a dealer in the area. Great people.

I say jump in and get ur feet wet, it's not a hard job even if u have to improvise on some of the tools I have changed them on a 4 cam 4.6 and I'm not a modular guy either

Good luck, I have the tool needed to change the lash adjusters. My Saleen developed an RPM sensitive chatter/tick when warm it came on between 2000-2500 RPM.

I changed all of the lash adjusters and the noise was still there. It got worse, and had Mike Bell listen to it. His thoughts were rod bearing on last leg.
Saving now to build forged aluminum motor.

Thanks for all. The help. Changed all of the lash adjusters and still made the noise. I was told it might b a rist pin. I got rid. Of the car so no need to fix it now. I want to thank everybody.
