first of all, would it be crazy to purchase a 2000 lightning with 200+ thousand miles, even if it were in really good condition? secondly, what would one pay for such an automobile? this is, of course, not knowing if any major parts have been replaced (supercharger, motor, etc.)

No more than 10k tops. Personally I would not go higher than 8k. With a 2000 the heads are the least preferred. Only 3-4 rings hold spark plug in. vs All of them on the 03-04 heads.
The 99-00 ran a little richer from the factory.
99-00 had 3.55 gear vs 3.73 on 01 up.
Other than that only little things like head lights and tail lights are different.

I would love to have another one.

I just don't know if I could go back to the 12mpg avg.

my buddy was looking for one and he found some really nice ones for 9 and 10K with under 100K on the clock. I would pay anything over 6K.

Here is what NADA says its worth. NADA is what most banks use 99.9% of the time for loan value.

Edmunds says the vehicle is worth $3923 trade in and $4596 private sale. In this case I would lean to Edmunds. Any dealer appraising it will likely go Edmonds because of mileage go to what auction lots are getting for them in this condition which may be even lower with regard to trade in value. As for retail they likely think there is a sucker every day and slap 10K plus on it based off Kelly Blue Book. Don't be that sucker.

In the end I would only buy it if it is a true one owner and they have every receipt on the vehicle for all maintenance and repairs and upgrades and IT HAS NEVER BEEN EVEN BUMPED IN A WRECK. Then I would not give more than $4500 for it Jon. That is just my gut feeling on this high mileage truck.

I agree with the value in the books. But I have not looked in a while but I don't remember seeing very many L's under 8k.

They are just like the GTO from 04-06. People will ask more than they are really worth loan wise.

Thanks everybody. I may check it out. I think I could be in it under 5. We'll see?

If the body and interior were in great condition and you know going in that the drive train could need some love I think it could be a nice find.

I have decided that now is not the time! If anyone is interested in it, it is at Castrucci Auto Mall in Dayton. They have it priced at $6950, but ask for Jamie Brown (used car manager) and tell him Jon Thompson sent you!
