So yesterday was my girlfriends birthday. We both took the day off and we went to Berea KY. She loves arts and crafts and she has never been there. We drove her car. 2003 V6 Mustang. We had a great day. On our way home we were coming past the Beechmont exit. Almost home. We were in the center lane and I was going about 70mph. A deer decides to run across the highway. When I seen her she was half way into our lane. There was a car to my right about 4 car lengths back and a car behind me about the same distance. But no one in the left lane. So I had no choice to hit the brakes and swerve to the left. Hoping she would make it across and we wouldn't hit her. Nope she decided to slow down. She dropped her head and we hit her. Looks like her head hit under the passenger side headlight where the fog light would be if she had fog lights. But the rest of her hit the side of the car. Did some damage. But the damage would've been worse if I hadn't swerved. We would've hit her head on and she probably would've came through the windshield. Could've destroyed the car and sent us to the hospital. And may have caused a worse accident. A few cars behind us hit it as well. My girlfriend was instantly in tears. She a huge animal person. She wanted to go back and make sure she was dead. I said it wasn't a good idea in case someone hit it and lost control. I walked around to the front of the car to see how bad it was and she took off down the median in the grass. Oh boy. I felt like a bad situation just got worse. People were swerving to miss the deer in the emergency lane a little. I caught up to her when she got to the deer. It was dead. It had been hit a few times. I looked up and seen a big truck coming and grabbed her and started running and told her not to look. The truck destroyed the deer. She asked if the deer was dead. I said, Um yeah she's definitely dead. I think the impact when we hit it killed it. There were a few cars pulled over on the other side of the highway a little up the road but by the time we got back to her car they were gone. The big truck kind of tossed the deer off the roadway. That's the first time I've ever hit a deer before. We were both shaken up for a bit. I figured she was pissed that I just wrecked her car. Later on she said she didn't care about the car. Just glad we were ok and it was tragic that the deer lost its life. I feel like crap about the whole situation. Anyway, here's some pics of the damage.

Oh man that sucks. Sorry to hear that. I hope it didn't do much damage.

Ive seen some really messed up vehicles from hitting deer. I feel like the damage on her car isn't too bad. Considering we were going 70 and she was about 30ft in front of us. Couldve been a lot worse.

Thanks. Yeah the car is drivable. I can fix most of it. The quarter under the side scoop is the part that will need some body work. Its hard to see in the pics but its got a nice dent in it. Ill just pick up a door and bumper from the junkyard that's the color.

Thanks. Stock and worn rotors and pads. So it doesn't stop like the Cobra. She will be getting some drilled and slotted rotors. It made a huge difference in the Cobra. Oh yeah, and the abs was kicking in.

Thanks. We had an awesome day in Berea. I tried to get us a room at the Boone Tavern for Monday night but it was late and they didn't have anything so we decided to just get up early on Tuesday and head down for the day. Im sure we'll go back.

Sounds like you got lucky and am glad you guys didn't get hurt! I am a deer magnet... We clipped one in the Saturn on the way home from Clifty, I was able to swerve and it just hit the front but no damage.

Damn that sucks. Glad there was no injuries and no damage. And glad you didn't drive the sleeper. But I agree I feel like we got very lucky. It could've easily went very bad. She even had the little things on the front of her car that's supposed to chase the deer away. Not sure if it worked or not. Maybe why he stopped. Or the he froze in the head lights.

Thanks. Damage isn't too bad. Im just glad it wasn't my car. I mean it sucks that it happened but it would've destroyed the front of my car.

Oh man aint that the truth. Good stuff but I don't think you could've made a steak out of what was left after the big truck hit it. Maybe a some chili? That's good stuff too. Lol

Glad yinz guys are alright. I hate riding my motorcycle this time of year, I am always watching the sides of the road instead of where my focus should be. It sounds like it could have been a lot worse though.

Nothing WORSE than being behind an 18 wheeler that nails a deer and is goes under both tandem axles. You think it is a blown tire at first....but it gets worse.
