alright guys was wondering your choice of a chainsaw. I have a old school 041av stihl chainsaw. I was just wondering what other people are running and if they have any luck with a new stihl. I really like my old school saw but really heavy and a little hard to use for little jobs.

We use stihl chainsaws at work. We have a few different sizes. They've always worked great.

Mix the fuel properly, sharp chain while keeping it lubed, and most saws will get the job done :bigthumb

I have a poulan wildthing that has actually been very good, I bought it when I needed one in a pinch figuring it would hold me over until I got a stihl, The chain that came with it sucks I found a stihl chain that fit it and it worked way better.

Stihl 038 SFB. You know its good when it says made in west germany;) also have an echo cs 440. Trim work gets the echo and I use the stihl if I'm droppinng general sherman or anything that needs split before it goes in the stove. I really like the newer husqvarna saws just never ended up with one in my garage. I hear you on the weight. I run a 20" bar which is great for felling or bucking but when it comes to brush work I turn to the echo to save my lower back.

I have an older Stihl 036 Pro with a 20" bar, wouldn't get rid of it.

I have had the same Stihl for over 30 years. It's been in the shop once, for a tune up.

Stihl 390 here. I may be wanting to sell it. I need a 440 or or 660. I have some really big trees to cut.

This 390 will cut all day long with no problems. If your going to spend money, buy a Stihl.

I just got done cutting down 8 trees in my yard all really good sized one's approx 30' high trees and then trimmed everything from 35' up and below. We used Stihl's with a buddy who's a trimmer they worked great but I had my brother in laws craftsman and I'd say it worked just as well. The thing I liked about the craftsman was that when the chain would come off I didnt need to use any tools at all.

Stihl... that's all we use at work, only issues we have had is when morons but bar oil in the 2cycle tank  run for ever and I wanna say if I remember correctly the chainsaws are made in the USA. I went to a Stihl seminar last winter for work and learned all about the things. We have mid grade Stihl weedeaters that are the in between commercial and personal versions and they get used 30 hours a week atleast and run like champs. Stihl has really figured out the small engines. and here soon you will be able to buy fuel injected ones. they released the concrete saws to see how they do!

You can't beat a still. My dads is an early 80's model and hasn't done anything more than a tune up to it. I have a Husqvarna 445 that has done me good for the last 4 years. 18 an 20" bars I can do just about anything I need.

I heat primarily with wood, and cut year round. It really depends how often you'll be cutting to justify the expense of a high end saw. I currently have a Husqvarna farm boss, a 54cc Poulan Pro with a 20inch bar, and a poulan wild thing. The Husqvarna, and Poulan do great for the locust and other hard wood. But believe it or not pound for pound I like using the wild thing because of the weight, and it's reliability, especially if I'm climbing.

I used to sell power equipment at lowes and Home Depot. Honestly Stihl is about te best out there. If you're on a budget ten I'd recommend Huqvarna for a bigger one or Echo for a smaller saw. Poulan, home lite and mccallough are all made by the same company iirc and they're all junk. The Wild thing was a promotional gimmick (as told to me by the vendor) because they made te saw in the factory colors, and it never sold, so they decided to paint it crazy colors and call it "wild thing" and they started flying off the shelves. Honestly we returned about half of the ones we sold... And it's only a 30 day return policy in gas equipment... I used to cut down trees as a side job an we used the farm tough Husqvarnas and never had a single issue with them.

For those that may be interested. We have a revolving pile of wood at work that is free for the taking. Its trees that us or contractors have cut down in the city. We added 2 more today. Its free, come and get it.

Where? I have a couple trucks and can deplete a wood pile in no time.
