Trying to make a decision on what transmission to go with in my turbo'd cobra, two speed or three speed trans,I will occasionally drive car on street..who can build me a trans that will hold a decent amount of power?I appreciate all the advice in advance.Just to stay on safe side I want a built trans that will hold 1000-1200hp So it will last..Thanks guys

TH400, ask JIMS SVT who built the trans he ran.

TH400 or a PG, depends what you want to do with it. The 3-speed will be fun on and off the track with the extra gearing. I believe the PG will be the best choice for the track and still be able to have fun on the street, just my opinion.

I think a dedenbear case powerglide is the only thing that will really hold up to it long term. I loathe thm400 transmissions however, always have.

Jim's car is on their website. http://www.extremeautomatics.com/home.html

Personally though I would go power glide.

Jimmy had a spragless th400 built by Lonnie Diers of Extreme Automatics. It was a Griner brake, stock chryo'd and welded gear set. If you plan on going 8.5 or radial racing go with a second gear leave piece. The 1.40 or 1.48 gear will be your friend.:bigthumb Lonnie built mine originally but I have now switched to another builder who I have A LOT more faith in. TH400s have been deep in to the 6 second 1/4 range reliably on stock cases. Depending on what you want get ready to pull your wallet out $5000- $7000 is not unusual for a billet input and main shaft, 2.10 gear set, Griner brake, aluminum drums, etc. Give me a call if you want to discuss this further. There is a reason that Phil, Darren, and a ton of outlaw racers switched from glides to Th400s.

Listen to Adam on this. There's only about 2 people around here that I'd trust to build me a good transmission. A lot of people say they can, but saying and doing is two different things!
