I am having some problems getting the motor to fit. I purchased the motor complete from a guy who had it in a fox body mustang. When I dropped the motor in the front of the oil pan is sitting on the steering rack. After close inspection I realized that the steering rack appears to be to high. It is actually higher than the center bar of the tubular k-member. After looking at pics of k's online it appears that the rack mounts are welded to the top of the center bar of the k member versus in the middle or below. I guess my question is can I have these relocated to the middle of the center tube or even below it? Does anybody know a good welder that would be able to accomplish this while the car is still a roller. I really don't want to have to remove the k to do this. I do realize by lowering the rack mounts a bump steer kit may be needed. Any opinions is appreciated.

What k member is it? MM makes offset rack bushings that will lower the rack. Whether you weld the rack mounts lower or use offset bushings is doing the same thing and you'll probably need a bump steer kit either way.

Not sure on the k-member brand as it was in the car when I bought it. I believe it is an older k from the look of it. No stickers or identifying marks on it. I thought of using offset bushings but I think I need it dropped more than what the offsets will allow. I am going to take some pics when I get home of the k-member and rack. Its definitely is sitting to high.

I called the guy i bought the car off of yesterday and in fact it is an older k member that has the higher mounting points for the steering rack. The oil pan is a 7qt pan. Other than that i cant find any markings on it. I do know this engine was sitting in a fox body car when i bought it. The only thing i changed is it had solid motor mounts and i changed those for convertible mounts.
