My daily driver probably has a leak in the evaparator coil and I am trying to avoid the time and expense of taking the dash out to fix it. My question is this: does anyone have experience using some sort of sealer injected into the a/c system to plug the hole? I know such products exist, but I don't know if they work. Any advice would be appreciated.

What car?

I don't have direct experience with a sealer like that, but I guess the worst thing would be it doesn't work. Then replace the evaporator anyway.

Bigger question, I would think, is could it do any harm to the rest of the system.

Super seal is the ONLY sealer I've had good luck with, if its a real big leak it probably won't help. Autozone sells it...

Its a 13 year old Focus ZX-3.

Good point about checking on potential harm to the other components.

I wouldn't try it. You have a 13 year old system that is not what it use to be. The book calls for 7hrs to do the whole job. I say have someone suck out the system, do the swap on a saturday and have it sucked down and recharged. Then your back to having a working system by monday.

I have gauges and a vacuum pump if you need one.

Very kind of you, but I lack experience to work on a/c.
