Y'all are SOFT AS FUCK. :flipoff:

Was talking to an old street racing friend of mine and we got to talking about street racing, etc., and how much different the "game" is now. It's sad really. Now, this will probably be hard for a lot of you so-called street racers of today to understand, but there was a time when the only "negotiating" done, was where and for [u]how much[u/]. Now everyone stands around for hours bitching/crying with their hands out like a bunch of bums, and still rarely get anything off.

Run what ya brung and hope you brought enough. It's a crazy concept but it works. It actually strengthens the breed so to speak. I hear things like "well, you just don't want a fair/close race" or whatever. Your right, I don't. I want to bury your fucking ass. I want to put ship lengths on you. I want to embarrass you so bad you think very long and hard about running me EVER again. I mean, I see these guys getting car lengths, "the break", and so on, and if they actually get lucky enough to still win the race, talk shit about how bad/fast they are and how they just kicked your ass. WTF? LOL Ummm, you were given the race, you didn't win shit, your crap box is still slow comparatively. That kind of shit just breeds mediocrity.

There's no real hierarchy anymore. Used to be you knew where you stood, and if you wanted to go up in rank, so to speak, you worked on your shit and then went looking for the guys above you to see where you stood. Asking for lengths or anything like that would get you laughed out of the fucking parking lot. You jokers wear that negotiating crap like a badge of honor anymore. :bangwall: Work on your shit and get in where you fit in. Quit "asking" for shit and go out and TAKE it.

I've read a couple of members post talking about the Dirty Dozen on here tonight, and how egos, or whatever, has basically made the Dozen a shell of its former self. It's a shell of what it used to be because you have let people believe that DD should stand for Daily Driver. I remember when the original Dozen had actual RACE cars on it. Not the knuckle-draginng street cars you guys like to complain about being on the list, but actual class/race cars. You want to get rid of all the BS on the Dozen? Get rid of the chicken shit. Require a legit license/registration, insurance if you want, figure out what a participating member is (often has less to do with post count and more to do with how they help fellow members, etc.) and then let the cards lay where they may. I don't care if someone has run their car once or a hundred times. All these break rules and combo change rules, etc. have done nothing but weaken the Dozen. It's not about going out there and just beating the ever loving hell out of your shit and hoping you have a good spot as it should be. It's about finding a way to keep people off the list anymore. Reward those that are willing to let it all hang out, not being mediocre. If someone posts a legit time, that's what it is. I don't care what they do the rest of the year, short of no longer owning said car, their spot is their spot, until someone quicker overtakes them. Sounds crazy I know. :screwy:

Is it spring yet? ;)

I think it goes back to a social change. I'm older and out of "the scene" so I may be wrong about this, but these are my personal obsevations. When I was young, I grew up in a little town up north Attica. On Wed, Fri, and Sat nights we did this thing called cruising. Yea that's right it existed, just like on American Graffiti. It was awesome, (shouldn't say this but it was a different time) you and a few of your buds would get some beers get in the car and hit the strip.

There were two reasons to cruise, one to show your ride and b to find chicks. Belive it or not there were tons of chicks out there as well, this was sort of a dating service without going into a bar. Back then there was very little parking and talking/negotiaing. If you wanted to race you just headed out of town to a back two lane and did it. Either for money or bragging rights. We didn't know what a length was. Of course in Bucyrus and Tiffin there were few serious cars. I was 16 and had a brand new 78 Kaw Z1R, there weren't any cars and not many bikes that could touch it.

Then I went into the military and moved to So Cal, fucking WOW. This was the Meca of high po. Riverside/Van Nuys etc it was just incredible. This is the early 80s and this is about the time the law is cracking down on cruising and putting up road blocks etc. This pushed people off the main drag to warehouse parking lots and back roads. The whole scene moved to one that was fluid and moving (no talk) to one that was parked (nothing but BS). I was hitting Riverside heavy in the early 80s it was incredible the main street was plugged nonstop all night and there was a 4 lane outside of town with a large gravel parking lot. People would trailer bikes and cars out there it was like a dark midnight drag strip with burn barrells and bbqs. And I can't remember ever seeing the cops out there as long as we were out of town. I think this is where all the BS began. Even then it was run what you brung, there was a pecking order and you knew where you stood. If you wanted to talk shit, you better have the cash to back it up because these guys didn't run it for fun.:cool1:

Amen brother! I'm an eighties kid too and can remember cruising as it used to be and street racing was fun not combative. The cars were slower for sure, fuel injection was an undesireable factory option on most cars. Back when we couldn't afford a brand new Mustang LX at $12,000 sticker. When double pumpers and dual point distributers and cherry bombs were performance parts. Remember?

Remember when the loser of the game didn't get a trophy, bullying was part of life and not social topic for examination, and to stop it you beat the SOB's ass. Remember when you screwed up at school and the teacher took you to the hallway and paddled you, then you went back to work and life went on. No counseling, no note home to parents discussing your mental state and recommendation for therapy.

What we have now is a culture/society problem. It has penetrated evey facit of our society including our hobby. I'm with Kwick, we are soft as fuck. My shit is slow but I'm not whining, it'll get there; but I'm not gonna talk shit, I know my place. I celebrate the success of others. I like to go to the strip and see fast cars, talk to the owners and see what is working. AND, I appreciate when other guys look at my car and offer advice to me as well.

So whatcha gonna do then? I don't post much but I couldn't resist this time. Yeah, we need an attitude adjustment for sure. I'll see you out there when I get the car off the jacks and look forward to the change.

No more Middletown trans ams for for me. I'm old now and can't deal. I think alot of us older guys get into other stuff or just lose interest in going faster. The only place for me to go at this point is real fast and as the guys who know me will attest that's not what I want. I have zero interest in going low 9s. It would take big money to put a blower on my car because everything would need changed. I've already spent money I don't have in putting nelly together. The addition of 8200rpms made me go to a gforce dog ringed t5 which makes for tough driving on the street. I used the all different color autozone wires as a smoke screen for those that don't know me. Lol

I can't speak for anyone else, but as an "older" enthusiast, it's not so much that I'm slowing down. I'm just in a different place financially and I have a shit ton more responsibility. If I was to get hit for street racing I'd loose my CDL, for me that means I loose my job, which means my business would probably shut down. Even if I could financially recover from that and manage to keep my house and cars. I would have a tough time going back to work because I still need a reasonably clean license to drive a company vehicle.

Which inevitably would probably lead to a divorce. Getting old sucks.

I still love to go fast, speaking of which has anyone been to the Ohio Mile in Willmington yet?

Chad, Kevin, and Mark have had to hold it down for the Mafia for several years now. :bigthumb I'm guessing there will be at least one more out this year considering how close the car is to being done. I'm at the track often but as you know, it definitely ain't because I'm driving/running my shit. A couple of us have had a big shift in priorities and interests. Comes with age I guess.

:bigthumb To all of the above. I've tried explaining how the "scene" here in the Dayton area used to be and I find it hard to not sound like I'm full of shit. LOL Technology has made the fast cars of today waaay faster than what was fast back then for sure, but you can't match how much fun it was. Quickest guy around here back then ran mid 9s, next closest guy was probably mid to high 10s at best. My car ran 12.80s on my L60 Pro Tracs and I thought I was setting the world on fire. :D A lot of tight racing back then too. The best weekends though were always when guys would show up from out of town to run whoever they could line up against. There would be race after race until almost dawn. Good times. Cops for most part didn't do much besides make us move along to another parking lot or whatever every now and again. Try doing that shit now, ain't gonna happen. I think they still might pull it off in Middletown but not 100% sure.
