ok guys and gals im looking at a 96 cobra that is bone stock and not really sure about modding one. i have always messed around with 302s. so what all is there i can do without have to put a turbo or supercharger or nitrous on it my goal is to get a mid 12 second car before putting a power adder on it

The biggest gains will always be full exhaust and a gear. The n/a 4 valves love spray though!

full exhaust, 4.30 gear, aluminum drive shaft, cai, tune, possibly ported intake? Works on the Machs, and obvi wheels/tires and pull weight if your willing to go there. Under drive pulleys are good for a few. Honestly, mid 12s shouldnt be too hard, but it wont be a cake walk.

410 or 430 gears, and spray. no need for a tune if your not gonna spray more then 125. i have had over 20 of those cars and that seems to be the best bang for the buck.

well i already looked at full exhaust and found a full mac setup, was gonna put 4.10 gears in it and a cai. how hard is tuning these cars or can i just get a programmer. only thing i worry about spraying it is blown the intake off i watch jason do it to his car a few times when he was spraying before he went turbo

Id look into different headers than mac. They used to be known to eat motors not long after thhe install.

what do you mean by eat motors and what would you look into i was looking at the long tunbe a h pipe and a cat back system and does anybody know if long tube headers have to come off to do a clutch job

you can do it with out taking them off but it is ruff. that is with bbk lt headers. as far as the spray i have done it alot without a tune. just used ngk tr6 plugs and 35 thousands grap and rip.

MACs mod motor headers used to have a bunch of slag in them that would get sucked up through the EGR. Not sure if it's an issue anymore, this was 8-10 years ago...

I have read that the biggest upgrade for those 4 valves are heads, just what I read though.

Cams aren't really worth the money and effort on a 4v.

Driver mod, Learn how to drive it before throwing tons of mods at it.

ive got Macs on my 4v and it loves them. My car also loves the cams in it :) Im not sure how well B head cars respond with cams though. I really think you can get mid 12s without a problem even without a cam swap

My stock longblock b headed cobra na went 11.31 @ 120.2 Then did a set of cleaned up heads and a set of comp cams and the car went 10.70 @ 127 with the stock shortblock. I beleive the cams was the biggest part of it picking up. Not the heads.

Are you serious? A set of cams that use stock springs will add 40rw. A short runner intake, cams and longtubes will add no less than 60rw at peak. A small diameter damper, water pump and hydraboost pulleys will add another 15-18.

Sorry guys, the only cammed modular I've owned already had them when I bought it and every time I've looked into cams in a modular the gains didn't seem that impressive for the cost and work involved with doing them in a modular motor. Maybe I was mainly seeing the results for 2v cars, or just not the right cam choice or something. In a push rod motor I'd say absolutely throw a cam in it since it's a much easier install.
Disregard what I said, apparently the N/A 4v cars benefit from them much more than I knew or expected.

Jimmy's did alright with cams.
It's not uncommon for shops to say that cams aren't worth the money and I think it's because they don't want to install them.
