Well recently I sold off my black 89 turbo GT and bought my old 03 GT back. I was tired of messing around and trying to round up a truck and trailer to get to the track and wanted something I could enjoy more often. I used to own this car before and went 13.30's in it before with just a gear and exhaust on 17 inch radials. Now that I have it back, I plan on doing something but not sure yet what. Thinking a 4 valve swap and a 76mm but I want to retain everything that makes it friendly.

Still just a NA 2 valve 5 speed with 4.10 gear, shorty headers, h pipe, and catback. The body has a 99 Cobra front and rear bumper, and a H.O. Fibertrends hood.

4V with a big turbo...sounds like a other project that will snow ball out of control that you will end up selling off. It is a good looking car though.

Nice ride!!! Who got the fox, any one on here? I was hoping to see the end result of that bad boy.

I personally prefer a fast street car when it need a trailer all the fun disappears.

Good luck and hope to see it at the track or cruises!

Looks good, I agree with leaving the 2v in it and adding some spray or boost. Bolt-on GTs with a gear do seem to be the most fun for some reason lol

Yeah this car is a blast just to drive. I forgot what it was like to just hop in and go for a cruise! I sold the black car to a local guy. So I can atleast see it get finished. I'm sure its in good hands!!!

I am curious as to what all can be done to these cars. I got access to a spare motor, 4V heads, covers, and chains, th400, and so on. Also a Precision 67mm. I dont want to affect the driveability though.

my stock 05 3v car with a t70 is the funnest car i've owned, drive it daily,90 yard 3rd gear burnouts, smoke evrything i pull up to on the streets{theses days not much out there} and all the comfy features, and 24mpg when i drive it normal, turbo that fugger on 7-9 lbs you will be happy,it can be done at around 2 grand if you find a used kit tune etc...those 2v love boost

You don't want to affect driveabilty but you want to put a TH400 in it?

draggin50
12-14-2012, 02:03 PM
TH400 and a 3.27 or 3.55 gear isnt bad to drive. Even in my black car with a 400 and a 3.73 gear, I could cruise at 65 all day long.

cstreu1026
12-14-2012, 02:14 PM
yeah but its also nothing like a 4R70W with a lockup converter. Not bad and not affecting driveability are two different things...at least to me.

12-14-2012, 02:53 PM
I may look into that as well. This mod motor shit is all new to me. Im always willing to take advice!

Is the car an auto or a stick?

12-14-2012, 04:36 PM
Its a stick cam.

draggin50
12-14-2012, 08:05 PM
Yeah its a 5 speed. Im gonna enjoy it for a while and just see how it turns out. I got the 86 also but my oldest boy kind of took it over so it leaves me with out a dedicated race car.

cstreu1026
12-14-2012, 08:35 PM
Bolts-ons, cams, and a set 4.30s with a beefed up trans and you have loads of flu with good reliability and driveability.

draggin50
12-14-2012, 08:39 PM
Right now it has 4.10's, shorty headers, H pipe, Mac cat back, shifter, and Predator programmer. I have new Strange 10 way rear shocks, and upper and lower control arms with spherical bearings that I need to put on.

draggin50
12-14-2012, 08:41 PM
What cams would you go with? I would like to go with some turbo friendly cams cause it will most likely happen in the future. Got a 67mm Precision that would make it a little more fun!

12-14-2012, 09:42 PM
I do like the fact that I can hop in and drive all over. I won't be happy running 13.00's though. In the end, I want a street car with around 750hp to the wheels with a/c and no cage. I think then, maybe ill be happy!

Comp 262's, VT/CMS Stage 1's or something similar work really well.

Here ya go again Brian! lol

I've kept my '94 pretty much the same way I got it 7 years ago. Yeah id like it a little faster, but its a stupidly-reliable car at the moment. If I wanna go uber fast I just go ride in Steves car lol

I picked up a UPR K-member, a arms, QA-1 coil overs and caster/camber plates yesterday. Ill get it in as soon as it warms up a little. I hate the cold and kerosene prices suck!

draggin50

Made some progress finally! Got the front suspension finshed up. UPR k member and a arms, Strange 10 way struts, UPR coil overs with 14-200 springs, and UPR caster/camber plates. I bought the k member and a arms used so I put new bushings in the a arms and installed new ball joints just to be safe. Also put in some new poly rack bushings.

Just my opinion - make a distinction between a strip car and a street car, and don't try to blend them unless you've got a lot of dough to burn.

My car is similar to your car performance mod wise, and a lot of people that I see around are trying to pump out big numbers, keep all the luxuries, and are fighting to keep things reliable. I'm honestly just going to put in some cams on my current car eventually and call it done - a fun street car that can still get in the 20-25mpg range if I drive it right.

Once I have a truck and trailer I'll be looking for a cheap fox to put a big block in it. I'll still have fun and reliability, but I'm not going to be pushing the limit much further on my street car.

Yeah Im sure it will help out a lot! Plus it makes header gaskets a breeze!

Im still not sure which way I want to take this car. Im looking at buying a couple more cars here soon so this one may be about done once the suspension is finished up. But I am one of those people who want to have 800 rwhp and drive it with A/C! Now if I can make it happen!

It's easy to have happen, a properly spec'd turbo kit will do it in a heartbeat on a 2v, but you will have some things you'll have to fight. The biggest things on the mod motor setup is the trans input shaft, fuel supply, and the intake manifold choking you on the lower end. The motors can take more abuse than the old small blocks.

The fixes are simple. A triple fuel pump fuel hat, E85, efficient intercooler, either a set of good ported heads (2004 have full threads, all previous ones do not) or Trick Flow heads, turbo cams, a built rear end, built rear end, and a tuner who knows their stuff. None of that is cheap though, and you'll be fighting one thing after another until the package comes together, and it won't tolerate any shortcuts. An electronic boost control can be pretty handy as well.

The debate is never if it can be done - it's how much are you willing to invest dollar wise, and how long you're willing to wait on piecing everything together to buy it on sale/used/etc.

The biggest question you should ask yourself, in my opinion, is to go 4v or stay 2v, and 5.4 or 4.6. I personally would stick 2v 4.6 - the 5.4 takes up a lot of engine bay, especially if you go 4v. A 5.0 Coyote swap is extremely involved, though it may be something to consider for your goals. Components are a lot cheaper, easier to time, and a few pounds of boost can make huge differences for a lot less for the 2v 4.6 than any other option, and would allow you to take those extra funds and put it back into power adders.

For reference, here's some stock head flow numbers:
Ford B heads flow 230cfm/145 cfm on the intake/exhaust @.500" of lift.
Ford C heads flow 225cfm/145 cfm on the intake/exhaust @.500" of lift.
'03/04 Cobra/Aviator, etc. heads flow 223 cfm/168 cfm @ .500" of lift
Stock PI heads flow 209 cfm/190 cfm on the intake/exhaust @.500" of lift
Trickflow heads flow 250 cfm/180 cfm on the intake/exhaust @.500" of lift
Stock Coyote heads 289 cfm/201cfm @.500" of lift (ported heads get 321/244 or better)

Trick flow also just released some 190 flow capable heads, and people do CNC port them for more flow.

Well my rear coil over parts came in this past week so Im going to be starting on it here in a few. Ill have more pictures soon! I have UPR spherical bearings, PA Racing adjustable uppers and lowers, Strange 10 ways, UPR torque box plates, and UPR coil overs.
