Fender liners help. I had to drive my '94 thru a flooded dip in the road last year, no problems. Its got an in the fender style setup

There are a lot of things to factor in. I only know 2 people personally who have ever hydrolocked a motor and both could've easily been prevented. If you have an open element filter that sits low, having common sense about the amount of water your driving through and how much throttle you're giving (if any) will go a long way.

I have one on my '06 GT. I haven't had any problems, but I do think they're over rated.

I think in most cases, the newer the car is, the less effect you'll see due to the technology improvements, especially on a naturally aspirated car. Same goes for a catback exhaust. Manufacturers now are figuring out how to get the best fuel milage and performance with conservative tunes, so the airflow is pretty good from the factory. They're not bottled up as bad as they used to be.

Yeah I don't have any liners lol just a bbk through fender. I might build a sheet metal box around it to keep this from happening again. I live less then a mile from work and it didn't like the water at all

Are you using as K&N filter? Make sure you have plenty of the oil on it to help keep the water from infiltrating past. A sheet metal guard to keep the wheel splashings is paramount as well.

I've known MANY (Honda) motors killed by idiot owners without fender liners driving through deep water.

16 years without issues myself

Another precaution you can take is you can get one of those filter condoms.

You mean a bypass valve?

Test have shown that by running the bypass valve you lose all the gains from a CAI setup.
