We have been looking for the past year. We have driven nearly every vehicle under $35K and no more than 2 years old.
As we went along she narrowed it down to the following requirements.
Turbo (while not a must it had to be sporty and fun)
AWD
Proximity Key
Heated Seats
Decent gas mileage
2013 Ford Escape Titanium AWD with the 2.0L Ecoboost

We have put about 500 miles on it and are loving it. The interior is comfortable, well laid out, cabin is extremely quiet, the upgraded Sony Stereo System sounds great, the thing is quick, and handles very very well. Drives like a car, though it's nice that you are up a little higher. The ride is very good considering it has 19" wheels. The liftgate opening by passing your foot under the bumper is awesome when your hands are full.
For just over 30K out the door, with the bumper to bumper warranty extended to 6 years 60K miles, this vehicle can't be beat.
