Ok , there was a manifold leak in my 68. I took some out and the others broke. Anyway the stupid manifold won't come of. I cut and grinded for 2 days. Bout ready to cut it in pieces. It's only a 6 200. At the top of the manifold is a silver tube right under the carb. Could that be holding it in place. Would heating the whole manifold help. HELP

You know the bad part. I have a 302 that is carb and a newly rebuilt t5. My wife said I will kill you if you do that. I had surgery on my left shoulder 3 weeks ago and it is really tender every time I do something. I was up half the night so I have to stop messing with it

If the studs broke off and are still passing thru the manifold the corrosion in the hole can be a lot of resistance even if the head of the bolt is gone. When in doubt... pb blast and a bigger hammer/prybar.

I have been using kroil oil. Is that as good as pb blaster. I was just about to start cutting it into pieces to get it off. 3 bolts came out. Only 1 will need to be drilled so far. The rest the head broke off. I had trouble with all 4 studs in the center.

PB Blaster is the bomb. I've seen it break free things I thought would twist off because of rust build up. Sometimes it takes a little while to soak in but in the end it works. If PBB doesn't work it isn't likely coming off. That stuff will free up anything but red locktite and/or pound footage...LOL!

Acetone and Dextron/Mercon III in a 1:1 ratio. Puts PB Blaster to shame!

Pb Blaster is definitely good stuff. I keep a can of it in the jeep in case I ever need it.
Would it be a bad idea to take a small chisel to it and see if you can force up?

I tried the chisel thing. One thing I was wondering if starting it ands heating things up would help

After I hurt my surgery arm I took it to someone. Only charged me 50 bucks but he broke it. Oh we'll. now I have 2clean bolt holes. 2 need drilled and the rest have studs but no heads on the bolts. Does that acetone stuff really work that good. I have soaked and soaked it with kriol oil

Where in the hell did you hear about that mixture?

SBF Tech. Juiced Coupe turned me onto it, and it works like a champ! I have some mixed in a spray bottle for whenever I need it.

I received an email that reads:

Some of you might appreciate this. Machinist's Workshop magazine
tested penetrants for break out torque on rusted nuts.

They are below, as forwarded by an ex-student and professional
machinist, Bud Baker.

They arranged a subjective test of all the popular penetrants
with the control being the torque required to remove the nut from
a "scientifically rusted" environment.

*Penetrating oil ..... Average load*
None ...................... 516 pounds
WD-40 ..................... 238 pounds
PB Blaster ................ 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ............. 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ................ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix..............53 pounds

The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of 50 - 50 automatic
transmission fluid and acetone. Note the "home brew" was better
than any commercial product in this one particular test.
Our local machinist group mixed up a batch and we all now use
it with equally good results.
Note also that "Liquid Wrench" is about as good as "Kroil" for
about 20% of the price.
