Really more of a personal goal than anything. I bought some afrs and an r intake and started to buy a 331 rotating assembly. But honestly I think I'm going to just see how fast a stock 5.0 can go. My car is an 89 gt. The car has adjustable lowers, d/a uppers, spherical upper bushings, drag shocks, no a/c, electric fan, h pipe, flows, and welds with drag radials. I think this 12 second goal is a bit much but I'm not afraid to buy good bolt on parts instead of tearing into the longblock. The car has yet to be to the track, so next weekend will be its first trip. Any suggestions guys? Thanks

Steves LX had an explorer powered/5speed '89 coupe, 4.10's, no a/c, march bracket set up, stock cam/ 19# injectors, and slicks and went 12.60's with full interior.... vinyl at that! No 2step or tach to go off of either. Coulda got 12.50's or better out of it had the track not turned to shit. Id say its attainable. That is also my goal. Very similar cars we will have.

Stock suspension I might also add! Only had solid uppers/lowers out back!

i got 12.6 outta my coupe with 3.73,drag radials, explorer intake and lakewoods. 12's easily attainable out of a stock 5.0 my car ran 12.6@105 with a 5spd on a 100 degree day, wanted to switch to a full slick and add control arms with 4.10s and go for 12.30s which i think was possible but never did before i changed combo

Yea. I have seen quite a few coupes in the 12s with nothin but bolt ons. I have a ported explorer intake and underdrives for my car. I'm lookin more towards going with tubular front suspension to take a little weight out of it. I'm gonna buy a set of et streets for the car here soon. Only problem with my goal is I'm tryin it with a full body gt with full interior...LOL.

Beat the schnot out of it. That's my plan too. My '88 has tubular suspension front and rear. But on traditional coil springs. Eibach drags actually. D/a uppers, single lowers all spherical. Welded/braced rearend. Stock 302 and full interior. Hoping it will go atleast a 13.20 when its done forever from now.

Id like to see more of your car. Sounds like we'll have almost identical cars

I'm lookin at afco k members. Probably gonna go that route. The rearend and front suspension are my main concerns...I want it to be able to drive to the track, short belt it, run 12.90s, and drive it home...

My car has normal coil springs on the back and I'm gonna go to coil overs in the front. My buddy went to a manual rack and picked up a full tenth and just over 1mph...his car is a full interior lx with a bone stock 302 and ran 13.50s with a gear and exhaust on stock suspension....

I've looked around to find out how much a set of stock gt front seats weigh in at. I think I might pick up a set of kirkeys with grey tweed covers to throw in it for the track....

I'll have to join in when I get some slicks. 302 ,gt40 heads, e-cam, 3.73. Full interior hatch. Haven't run it yet.

My cousin 90fastgt went 13.001 with bolt ons,electric fan and 4.10s in a full weight gt. 50more lbs and he woulda got that 12.999999

That's the number I'm looking for. Lol. I don't care if there are fifty 9s after the period as long as there is a 12 before it...LOL. looking mostly into making the car as light as possible. Lookin for around 3000 with me in it. I have been looking at tubular bumper supports and things of that nature. I think a set of headers would help. Lol. Stock shorties are probably choking it down a bit....

I ran my 12.6 with stock headers, not saying longtubes wouldnt help but just food for thought

ThanksI think you have set a goal that's well within your reach, my own car went a best of 12.64 @ 105.58 with a 1.60 60' in November of 2010 with completely stock untouched E7 heads, 5.0 HO intake, and 5.0 HO cam with all the supporting bolt-ons, suspension and weight reduction.

The car has since been a best of 12.54 with a best mph of 108.31 with a 5 angle valve job, 1.7 roller rockers, and a TFs valve spring kit courtesy of Dayton Performance. Those numbers are misleading though as I've only had the car out a total of 9 times over the last 2 years, and transmission issues that were resolved this time last year, so I'm optimistic that times will improve further as I get more seat time.

In my opinion a full slick is the only way to go, I've ran 12's with drag radials but they aren't as forgiving as a full slick when track conditions aren't optimum. Weight reduction and suspension are key and are the basis for adding more power down the road, it seems like you've got a good plan.

Thanks man. I am going to pull a compression test today and see what shape the shortblock is in....if all is well then the 22nd will be its maiden voyage. I'm really just lookin to get a baseline idea of where the car stands. Then I can go from there....
