So, I have decided that here in a few weeks I'm going to be purchasing a handheld tuner, and I am also getting different gears put in my car (2000 GT 5 speed)...but I have looked at gears and the prices for the 3.73 and 4.10 gears are the same...so my question is, which would be the best since their the same price? Also, whats an average MPG with both sets out of curiosity. Thanks

What kind of driving does that car see?
Honestly mod motors love gear. 4.10 or 4.30 would be super fun. 4.10 will but your 60mph cruise rpm at about 2500 depending on tire size. 4.30,s put you about 3k rpm crusing. 5th gear of course. As for mpg.... couldn't tell ya.

How about a 3.90

Well its my DD for now driving back and forth to NKU from California KY (20 minute drive) and mods as of now are only a cold air intake, bbk off road x-pipe, and some flowmasters...plus the handheld tuner coming with the gears...wheels are the stock 17" gt wheels for now lol (hate being a broke college student)
As for performance differences how noticeable is it and, is the difference in MPG worth it (even though I didn't buy the car for MPG's lol)

4.10's for sure. That what I had in my car when it was a daily driver and as long as I behaved myself I would see 23 mpg all day long which was barely any change from the factory 3.27 gears.

373 is what i would say i had 410 in a 2000 gt and it was to much. just my 2 cents.

Ok, thanks guys it helps, tonight after work I'm going to look into those 3.90s but I still got a few weeks before I get the money together so I'm getting anxious to wake it up a little bit lol.

My 02 with 4.10'S and manual tremec obtained 25-26 on interstate @ 70-75 MPH during a trip I took it on just before trading it years back. Could not believe the numbers at the first fill up, so I checked and calculated them twice. Was shocked to say the least. The next fill up on the trip supported the initial MPH numbers. In town however, about 17.
It ran out nice on the highway and at the track. Just shy of factory rev limit hitting the traps in fourth on a car with just a few bolt ons and and a tune + the gears. No laughing gas, cams, headers, or FI.

I checked what I was getting last night when I filled up (had to suck it up and pay $3.95/gallon) but I'm getting 23-24 now, just don't see it going up from there lol but I'm defiantly buying a tuner and gears for sure now...Thanks to my girlfriend, and parents for buying my window tint as an early birthday present; leaving that $200 for me to spend on other parts lol

I'd go with the 4.10's. My 99 has 3.73's and its not nearly enough gear. I have a tuner for sale but you'd have to pay for a tune from somewhere.

Completely off topic. It why do your side scoops look different? Are they v6 ones?

The 99-00 have different ones than the 01-04.

I think I'm going to get 3.73's, but thanks about the tuner; I'm probably buying the gear and tuner from American Muscle, because they sell it as a combo that includes the gears, tuner (3 custom tunes, and tunes for life), and then the installation kit with new bearings for $550.

I know their not v6 ones, as far as I can tell its they way they came in 2000 because all the ones I've seen are like that unless the owner bought different scoops...I did see American Muscle now sells the scoops painted to match the car so I'll probably be getting those soon too (I don't like the ones on it)...as for the hood thats the same way, but I don't see the point in buying a scoop for it because I would like to buy a new hood eventually anyways.

There are plenty of used 3.73 gear sets out there that will save u quite a bit, don't be afraid to buy used parts if they are in good shape.

Yip, and 3 weeks after you have them done, when every N/A edge you see has 410's or 430's you'll be playing the "should've song". Ask any speed shop, cincy speed, Easy Street, Finish Line, or any of the website stores. You'll wish you'd been less worried about 2-3 MPG and done it right the first time.

Well it's like I said its getting 23 now and that's better than the Jeep I sold to get it, Jeep was getting 17-18 lol... But what's about an average price to get them installed, easy street wanted $300 for labor

Like redfire said why worry about 2-3 mpg when u get that much more seat of the pants feel, in my opinion a stock 2 valve feels like ur driving around in grandma and grandpas old Buick without some bolt ons and gears and nobody wants that feeling in a muscle car, I say go for more gear

I think I am lol I didn't buy it for gas mileage and it's too slow off the line lol

By the way, I wasn't knocking Easy Street so everyone knows lol, just the only one's I've gotten a quote from...Finish Line is putting a price list together for me and waiting for the call back from them along with a call back from Cincy Speed...I don't know of any other performance shops around town, because I don't want to take it to any shop

Ok, so unfortunately I'm not going to be able to get the gears because the instillation price is a little high for me right now, and I spent more than I expected to on my 21st birthday last night lol :chug::cheers::drunk:...but I am still getting a hand held tuner and possibly a BBK Throttle Body/ Plenum combo, or underdrive pulleys...question now is which gives more power, throttle body or underdrive pulleys?
