View Full Version : Project-89 Coupe LSX Re-Swap

I bought this car probably about 2 months ago and I am just getting started on it. A little bit about the car-02 LQ9 with 4L60E out of a Denali, 5 lug conversion, newer paint, cowl hood, sub-frame connectors, moroso rear drag springs, and 3.73 gears. Motor and trans are bone stock.

The guy I bought the car off of did a pretty shitty job on the swap, basically hacked up a ton of shit on it! The further and further we got into tearing it apart, the more and more aggrevated I got! I couldn't believe someone would actually do the stupid ass things this guy did on the swap! Oh well, I had planned on pulling the motor to build it some so now I get the chance to re-do the swap the right way.

The car will be getting the following

Parts I already have-
Cartek 4x heads
RPM level 5 t56
Custom made stainless steel headers
Built 8.8 rearend (4.10s, spool, 35 spline axles, 9in ends, 5/8in upgraded studs)
Flaming river steering rack
Lakewood 50/50 rear shocks
Weight jackers & double adjustable control arms

Parts I still need
Front shocks
42lb injectors
Intake manifold (undecided on which one)
Fuel rails
90m TB
Custom cam (undecided on exact specs)
Clutch
Drive shaft
AJE K-member
And probably some misc parts along the way

And before I go any further I have to give huge thanks to Josh (331lx) and Rodney (90fastgt) for helping me do this project. Without those two no way I could be doing this swap by myself.

Now on to pics of the car!

These pics are of the engine after a few things were taken off (vortec intake cover, intake that belongs on a moped). The dumbasas had both the full Denali and 4cyl mustang harness still in the car!

Wasn't that for sale on here? Or maybe c/l. Either way I like the color and stance.

Car was not for sale on here but I believe it was on craigslist in KY somewhere. I bought the car from a guy that lived on the TN/KY border.

You gonna just mig the holes or use some smoothing panels?

95civic2005
08-06-2012, 10:34 PM
I ordered the Scott Rod Fab smooth front panels for the front. Not sure exactly what I'll do with the shock towers and frame rails. Might just try mig welding the holes on them.

Made a little progress on the engine bay this weekend. Gotta get the sway bar mounts off, which I don't think is gonna be easy, and finish smoothing around the weld-in panels and frame rails. Probably going to take 3 coats on everything. Hoping to finish it this weekend and get it to the painter to finish it so I can get the motor back in and get this thing done!

We welded all the holes then bondo over them to smooth it out. It takes some time but will be worth it!

Well took the car to the body shop today. Josh's uncle is gonna paint it, he also came over to help smooth the engine bay. He will be putting the finishing touches on it before he paints it. He will also be fixing the firewall where the guy who did the swap previously beat the firewall to clear the motor. The shock towers are smooth as glass! Should turnout awesome!

Firewall before. I'll post pics after he gets done with it too.

Well Josh (331lx) went and picked the car up today without me knowing it was done. He sent me a few cell phone pics. Can't wait to see it in person! I wasn't sure about painting the engine bay the same color as the body with it being so bright, but I think when the engine and everything else is in it won't look so "wow" bright.

Yeah I wish I had my own garage like this too! I can't complain tho, Josh said anytime I need it I know where its at. Not sure, ran into some little things this weekend that set us back. I would love to get a few passes on it before the track close but I'm not sure that will happen this year. Regardless, not soon enough!

Soon as he gets the rest of them dang parts lol hopefully we get em all by this weekend an have it on all fours again

The front will be back on the ground this weekend, but the rear won't. Got to look at the rear disk brakes and see if they will fit, plus I haven't ordered wheels yet.

Made a little progress this weekend. Its back on all fours with new brakes all the way around. Upgraded to 86 svo calipers and rotors up front and strange brakes out back. Got the motor all put together. Installed ls6 ported oil pump, fbody oil pan, pickup tube and windage tray, ls2 hd timing chain, ls7 lifters and cam. Painted it all up. Just gotta check ptv clearance next weekend and hope to get the motor and trans back in. Now for some pics!

What exactly are you doing for engine management? And what front accessories are you using, specifically that alt bracket?

I know in your original post you said you were undecided on intake manifold. What made you go with the Eddy?

Josh already answered but all front accessories are off a ls1 camaro. I went with the Edelbrock pro-flo because that's what the tuner recommended with this cam. Says they flow better than a FAST up top. He said not too many people run them because they won't clear the hood on a Vette or the cowl on fbodies but they are a damn good intake.
