I want to use my stock gas tank, so I am buying a sump and need it welded in. Wondering if anyone is brave enough to weld a gas tank and how much? Here is what I am ordering.

I wouldn't waste your time with a sump. You can modify and use what's already there.

Just modify what's there or buy a cell

I think Schmuckingham is the one with that. Good guy to deal with.

I would weld it, but the travel time would be insane.

It can be welded with out issues. You will need to remove it and drain it. Plug all holes but one. Take a shop vac hose and put it, take the other end and put on a tailpipe and run the engine for at least 15 minutes. That will take care of any fumes left in it and then. Cut and weld. You may want to just look at buying a new replacement tank. We did with Rixxx93GT's and then put the sump in. That way you know the inside is in good shape and clean.

I can tell you some of the problems I had when running a sump in a stock tank. They work great in mostly race car applications but unless the tank is fairly full the fuel will tend to slosh to the front of the tank when your on the brakes and when on highway on and off ramps the fuel sloshes to the side of the tank and tends to starve the pump. In my case I was running an Aeromotive pump and it got it's lubrication from the fuel and before I could get it fixed I ended up damaging the pump. While the pump was being rebuilt I pulled the tank again and my guy built a good size box inside the tank with holes in the top of it to trap some fuel to the sump and I never had the problem again. IMO the glenns tank is a much better idea.

Another issue with a sump tanked car is you have to run your pump mounted about the same level as the sump..... which, will either look really tacky, or hit the ground going over a bump! Lol
