Just wanted to see what style and who makes your favorite shift knob. The stock ball on my 5 spd Mach 1 drives me crazy. Gets super hot in the summer, and its too small for my hand and I can slip real easy. All these aftermarket shifters cost like $40+ and I dont want to buy a paper weight that I regret.
Let me hear your opinion

I'm partial to my FRPP Cobra one. Just a leather wrapped knob nothing special. My Anniversary Edition 99 came with the same one your Mach has and it came off on the ride home from picking it up. Lol

bump i have the same one in 6 speed version love it...... it's by far the most comfortable knob i've ever had and i've had, a hurst ball, factory ball, steeda ball, pistol grip.... etc and love it even more that my bud Chris chopped up my matching shift boot so that it all matches.....

thanks everyone. I was thinking about the FRPP one, and this just made my decision.

I had a UPR pistol grip, but #1, it was too small for my hand, and #2, I cant shift 3-4 on the side, I always use the top of the shifter and it felt real weird with a pistol grip.
Ill have to think about this. I have felt and do like the Hurst pistol grips, but theyre like $70

I have a leather Cobra knob in the race car. I tried several different others but kept coming back to this one. No slips, good grip, just feels right!

I had a 2 1/4 inch ball from MRT on my 96 convertible. Prefect size for my hand and did not get hot even sitting in the sun with the top down.
Will be buying one for my fox once it's up and running.

I've had the Mach 1 ball, Hurst Pistol grip, 03/04 Cobra knob, and I definitely liked the 03/04 knob for everyday driving and banging some gears. I thought I would love the Hurst pistol grip, but I ended up hating it.

I am currently using the MGW "Gripper" knob. I rotate my knobs throughout the year.

I loved my Mach 1 shift knob. Perfect size/weight for me. The threads were a little long, but nothing a shim couldn't fix.

I really like the classic white ball or black ball hurst shifter type these days in the newer cars. The Hurst T-shifter handle was nice also when I was younger. They had a really cool blacl felt one as well but never owned one. The T still looks good in the old classics but not my cup of tea in the newer model cars (unless there for racing), AND they burn the $^@# out of your hand on a hot day like this past weekend.
Linda Vaughn - Hurst Shifter Girl - RULES!
As for quality I'd have to say MGW as a shifter overall. Never ran one perosnally but they are clearly well made and well engineered. Never heard a bad thing about htem other than price...but you get what you pay for.

As far as looks go, the black Hurst pistol grip I had in my car matched the best(Black/Black interior), but then I got a bunch of billet pieces as a gift, and then the chrome Mach 1 ball matched better.

In my '85 I have an MGW shifter with the big white Hurst ball on it. Cool combo.

It took me a week to get mine at the right angle where I can just make a fist and let her eat... Mines not completely straight with the dash board it's pointed tward 3rd so I can just punch it

Yea, the UPR pistol grip feels like it was whittled with a rock compared to the Hurst. You get what you pay for, especially when it comes to UPR parts versus everyone else.
Mine is slightly angled too, I just left it loose and let me hand decide where it should be, then tightened it up.

If you are looking for successful shifting while racing you should PM the success stories. Talk to Brandon Alsept, SteveLX, or Kennebell Cobra to mention a few that I know personally. These guys are amongst those at the top of their game on the local level. Each has won racing events, and each runs a manual tranny. That's where I would turn to in the end. Thought you were simply curious what eveyone was running or liked for conversation purposes.

I remember when Brandon had his 03 Cobra, he stuck his knob out of 97 GT(his pure street car) in there. It looked goofy, but I reckon it worked.
