So does anyone out there have any ideas on a good programmer for a 96 F20 7.3L. I am just looking for something for towing. The truck is bone stock with no mods. Just looking to get a little more power and torque for towing and better MPG without tearing the motor or trans up.

I think my Dad has the Diablosport tuner. We did install the cheap 4 inch turbo back exhaust system, which has held up rather well and is pretty nice for the money.

I dont think 96 is intercooled. if im correct. you will get a good response by updating the piping, incooler and down pipe.. The edge programer with monitor is probably the best in my oppinion. 799 though

Yeah i'm not sure either. I dont know squat about these things. Couldn't even tell you where to start with what you said. Although I have heard the edge tuners on the older powerstokes eat transmissions up.

If u tow in a performance tune yes it will.. pop the hood and see if it has an intercooler. if not that would be my move.

96 is non intercooled for sure, unless someone added one.
If you do a turboback exhaust be sure you clearance the firewall really well or it will rattle LOL.
Matt (Rustang) has one and it tows great 24" enclosed with no issues at all. The only things done to it is a rebuilt tranny, and a 4" trubo back straight pipe.
Oh and get gauges off the hit. Tranny temp, and Pyro for sure

Do a exhaust for sure the factory downpipe is super restrictive. and like above said clearance the firewall with a BFH so it don't rattle.

I didnt have to BFH the bulkheads on three PSD's. And that was the 4 inch cheapo exhaust kit. one from Summit and 2 from Jegs.
And what Brandon said.
96 is non intercooled. First thing is get the upgraded piping and intercooler, gauges and exhaust.

Well that stuff will have to come with some time. I ordered a programmer today. We are off to Bowling Green on Friday for a race and I wont have time or the money by Friday to do all that stuff. So for now its just the programmer. Hopefully that will be sufficient for a little while until I gather up the funds and time to do the others. I'm not looking to spend 1000's of dollars to make this thing all hopped up on roids. I just need a few more pony's than what I got for towing. The truck is only being used for that and that only. It is only being driven once every 2 weeks and thats it. Other than a few away races down in Ky it will only go back and forth to E20. It's not a daily driver by any means. It will be sitting more than it will be used and will only be towing 6000lbs.

With that as its life plan, I say just service it up fresh fluids. Switch to 5w40 Syn rotella, flush the coolant and switch it to CAT EC1 coolant, maybe a larger tranny cooler but with that weight you should be fine. Then can't stress enough get at least a tranny temp and pyro gauge.

Sounds great Brandon. Appreciate all the advise from you as well as everyone else. I will definitely get somes guages. Probably not before we take off to Bowling Green but will have some within the next couple weeks. I went with the Edge 15000 programmer. Plan to only use the 40hp mode for now until I do other upgrades to include guages.
