Is there any tricks to installing a new computer into a 98 Cobra? I've had my dad look at it with his Modis and then a locksmith reset the new computer to my keys and it still will not start.

Yep....PATTS has to be turned off. The key will send a signal to the PATTS module in the steering column and it in return will send an "all ok" signal to the computer and then the computer talks to the instrument cluster. It's a pain in the ass but if you have the PATTS turned off it will start right up. Or spend the money at a dealer for them to sync the whole system again.

My buddy that's a Locksmith was over last night and tried to do that and it still wouldn't start. I'm thinking its a dead computer or it wasn't flashed right before it was shipped.

Well the air conditioning quit working and was tracing the problem down to power going into the computer but nothing coming out to feed the clutch coil

Did you check the low pressure switch? It has to be in good working order in order for the computer to turn it on.

Was the locksmith using a ford diagnostic/programmer when working on the keys?

I am throwing this out there ...... so that I know the locksmith was knowing what he was doing as far as programming the keys to the computer, but did he program the computer to sync with the PATTS and then program the keys? Because what I think he did was programmed the keys to the PATTS system but the PATTS system has to match the computer and the instrument cluster. So basically what I am trying to say is that all 3 have to match each others encoding.

Simple fix is if you have a programmer, have a custom tune and turn it off.

The locksmith was using whatever they normally use to sync the computer to the keys. I will double check the low pressure switch. I was getting power thru the switch.

Most likely the PATTS.

Yeah but they are not syncing the keys to the computer, they sync it it to the PATTS system. The computer has to match the PATTS module.

Trust me, its the Anti-theft system throwing you the curve.
