www.natchezss.com when it comes to buying in bulk, they are hard to beat even when including shipping! Plus they are in TN so you would have your ammo in 3-4 days at most. I use them when I'm buying 1000 rounds or more at a time.

Visited Mike @ Kylesgunshop and for an extra $10, I walked out with 1000 rounds of 9mm instead of waiting for shipping from an online shop. Also got to see some BADASS rifles!

Good prices here and there mostly on glocks and XD's but some rifle and handgun prices are off the wall.

I mostly shop at Jenamy in Milford because I mainly build my guns and he keeps most parts in stock. Sells guns $25 over his cost!!

Aim Surplus is hard to beat on ammo prices but sometimes the really good deals are bought up in a hurry.

Look at it like going to a car dealer. Chevy has cars from 15-60+k, right? Same with guns. We can get you into an ar or ak for 550-650, or as high north as 4300. It just depends on your wants and needs. Now, other makers occassionally have package deals which let us get guns for less, and sell for less; the problem comes from high volume, and we burn through all of them. Other things, we are the only people with them (like a colt le6920 fde magpul model with an acog/red dot combo).

We also have 4 full time employees plus the building for overhead. 3 employes when I leave.

Nah. Not MIXING brass and steel is the way to go for high volume shooting.

Just screwing around, we loaded up 6 different types of ammo in my 75 round AK drum- laquered steel (Hotshot), nickel coated steel (Silver Bear), poly coated steel (Wolf), brass coated steel (Golden Bear) and two different types of surplus military brass (Yugo and Egyptian). All 75 rounds fired off just fine through an AMD65. We did that about 6 times in a row (loading a second drum while the first was being shot). No issues with any of the rounds- all 450 rounds fired and ejected perfectly. If your guns have issues feeding ammo and need to be fed a specific diet to work, you may want to re-think your choices in guns!

An AK has no problem with the switching between brass and steel, ARs are the ones that have the problem.

I have never had any problems shooting steel out of my AR as long as everything was steel cased.

It isn't the platform, it's the caliber. 5.56 Nato/.223 is much more of a straight wall, whereas 7.62x39 has a severe taper - this is much like the Morse tapers used in machine shops.

All I shoot is corrosive, surplus, steel case out of my AR and the only problems I've ever had are bad mags.

So in what caliber is a AR platform "AK reliable"?

Considering I've seen more ak's beak....

If they're both in spec using good mags, both lubricated, using in spec ammo, they're both damn reliable.

Any edge the ak has on reliability is solely sure to not having a mag well, which lends itself to a mag that can be fully curved to match the ammo taper.

What breaks on an AK. Lol. Run anything through them, bury it in sand and dirt then rinse it off in a river and let it dry and it still feeds anything.

There's a reason they have been used for 65 years in I'm sure every war in some capacity and had numerous other weapons built on the same platform. They are just awesome.

Any edge the AK has on the ar is still an edge. An ar is still a great weapon.

Bolt carriers(in half), piston retaining pins, springs, mag base plates, etc.. The ar is much much faster to run and keep shouts on target, even if the same caliber.

Any firearm that isn't in spec, ar or ak, will malfunction or beak. If it was designed by man, it will break.

So in what caliber is a AR platform "AK reliable"?

When it comes to reliability personally I feel the Sig 55x series is superior to the AR.
If I had to choose (or got to) I would choose a Sig 55x over an AR any day of the week.

Granted the aftermarket for the 55x is nowhere near that of the AR. I don't really need the aftermarket.
My Ar has nothing fancy on it. Just your plain jane mid length AR. If I got to choose what I could carry I would hands down run a 55x.

The AR vs AK debate is not really apples to oranges.
An AK is going to give you no where near the distance and accuracy of an AR. While dependability is less in all conditions considered with the (though the AR is still a damn reliable weapon). You have to take the pros with the cons.

Or you can try to mix the best attributes of both and you get a Sig 55x series. While not perfect as no weapon is I feel it is a great gun that has the accuracy and range of an AR that can withstand worse conditions than that of an AR.

I was more asking about the round size in various AR platforms. He was saying the .223 cartidge is the reason there are issues, and I know you can get an AR in damn near any caliber, so I was wondering if one of them is dead nuts reliable. That's not the first time I've heard of an AR having a cartidge rupture in the chamber and need extraction. I've personally rammed 3 or 4 busted shells out of ARs using cleaing rods from my commie guns. Didn't even know the people, they were wandering around with their busted gun asking for something to rame through it. Sure, have at it! I've never seen a ruptured case happen on any AK, or any thing that shoots 7.63x39 for that matter (vz58, SKS, etc). So is the .223 round just bad about failing in the chamber? What about AR10s? Any issues with .308?

jeep45238
06-14-2012, 04:57 PM
I did not say the problem was .223, just that x39 has a larger taper which will clear a very fouled chamber faster than a straight walled.

When you shoot brass, it doesn't have the spring back that steel had, and seals against the chamber wall as it unlocks. When you shoot steel cases it has spring back, just like when you form sheet metal. As the pressure drops, the steel shrinks slightly and will allow dirt to get on the chamber wall, which will be limited in dimensional growth. When you mix them, the brass grabs onto the left overs and can jam it up.

As long as the rifle's buffer system, gas port dimension, mags, bolt, and ammo is in spec, an ar will run and run. Heck, I clean my ak, I don't clean my ar, I just oil it. Heck, I might bring it along to cincy speed and show craig how dang dirty it is.

If anyone has joined me at one of my farm parties, they know how I shoot my AR. Bushmaster 16 inch nothing special. It eats anything. Brass case, steel case, laquered whatever case...the secret is cleaning. More the chamber in an AR. That is where the laquer coating gets melted from the rounds. Keep that clean and no worries.

jeep45238
06-18-2012, 07:43 AM
I'd venture to say make sure the extractor is good, and keep it oiled - that's about it. All I shoot is lacquered steel case corrosive ammo out of my AR, and I don't clean it period. Runs like a champ.

I wish so I could buy more!! Though I do believe Sigs quality has dropped in recent years there are a few model I would not buy. Mainly in the pistol line though.
