Bought a t5 and I'm almost to the point at putting it in. But I've noticed that the fluid is not AOD fluid. How do I go about flushing it out so I can put some royal purple in. I've been told to fill it with kerosene or brake cleaner, empty it and just refill with aod fluid. Is this the correct route to go?

Wow! Never heard that one before. Doesn't mean its wrong, but wow! Kerosene I could see...maybe, but brake cleaner???????? Good luck. While I do not know the answer to this riddle...the magic eight ball says..."Wait for the right answer from an experienced professional who knows trannys before blindly moving ahead on hearsay."

Should you hear the answer elsewhere post it up...Inquiring minds want to know.

What's in it now? Gear oil?

You'd be surprised that people think 80w90 still goes in these things

Looks like, smells like, and feels like gear oil
Haven't tasted it yet but my guess is something that doesnt belong in it.
Got some royal purple synchromesh to go in

If it means anything the transmission is still out of the car

I think the best thing to do would be pop the top lid off, turn it on its side and hose the bitch out with brake cleaner...

Correct. Flushing out the tailshaft case would also be a good idea
