Well, as many of you know, at the end of last season I blow my motor, if you want a refresher, here is the thread on that:
http://www.stangbangerz.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76278
So the good motor that I pulled out to put the "Project" motor in, was still good, but need a refresh. Also I needed my Alum heads fixed from the carnage, so that is when I got up with BES to do the heads. Well, let’s just say I got a little out of hand with getting all new stuff.
BIG BIG thanks to BES and their great work that they did on all my stuff!!:bigthumb
After taking my old pistons out, I realized that my friend and I installed a couple of the rings incorrectly:rolleyes: It kills me to have to admit that, but you learn from your mistakes. At least that explains why I was not running good all year, well not as good as I could have, even though I was able to get a 11.5x last year.
Now details:
I had BES bore the block .030 and install Ross racing pistons, with a 9.5:1 compression, all new bearings, balance the crank and all pistons and rods.
I also had them fix the Alum heads with all new valves, valve guides and recut the seats.
Here are some pics of all the goods:
First the block:

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1790.jpg
Here you can see the crank dilled and the end caps ground to get everything balanced:

If you looked at the other post, you saw how bad the Alum heads looked from the piston pieces smacking them, but BES made them look like new:D

http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1785.jpg
Now I just have to put all of this:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1787.jpg
back on the motor.
So the past week I have been measuring piston to valve clearance, push rod length and prefitting thing up. So far I have gotten the heads installed, front cover installed, and my TB mounted up to my SC.

While waiting for the motor to get finished, I did get to install my race seat:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1801.jpg
Also replaced all my vacuum lines with push lock style lines and fittings, since all the stuff that I have before was getting old and falling apart.

Here is a pic of the lines installed and get you to take a double take:

Well, there you have it, I still need to install and modify my intake, get the oil pan on and couple of misc. things and I should be ready to put the motor back in.
My goal this season is to run mid to low 11s. I am switching to E85, 80# injectors and new slicks, so I hope all of this will get me there. Wish me luck guys, I sure need it.

Thanks, i just hope I get more than 1.5 passes out of it:rolleyes: I am sure I will, it was well built!!

I was wondering if anyone would say anything. BES still had my motor, and one of my other friends is doing a turbo build, and his block was there with the heads on, so I was able to set my intake on it to make my vac. lines routed correctly.
Beleive it or not, but there are a couple Grand Prix guys that have twin charged their cars. Get low end with the SC and help get the turbo spooling quicker. Pretty crazy........

Have you done anything to the SC during all of this?

Very nice. I had a '98 GTP years ago. Did just a pulley swap and trans cooler and ran 13.9's. Loved to see the look on peoples faces with that car. We ended up getting rid of it when the trans started to go and our first kid was on the way.
Looking forward to seeing your progress with this one!

are you going to turbo it at some point, or stay blower? is that the cartech kit that your buddy has? a friend of mine was thinking about doing that to his gtp.

No I am not, just used his motor as a mock up for the Vac Lines.
Have you done anything to the SC during all of this?
The Inlet is polished, the silencer holes have been blocked on the outlet side. I will be running a 2.8" pulley, which will get me around 12-14lbs of boost.

The Trans in these cars are like glass, and if you don't build them up, they don't last. Have had mine built a couple years ago, with a GMR 1" drive train, GMR torson Diff, and upgraded clutches.
I think that is why I stay with this car, is that it is a head turner.

After I have worn out this motor, I am going to build a turbo car, but I want to see what I can get out of the SC though.
The Kit that is on my friends car is a pieced together kit. The turbo is a Precision turbo, with SS front and rear plogs. He is also running a stage 3 turbo cam.
Awesome project. Always love seeing this car run as quick as it does. Looks great!

Well, the past couple of weeks I have been getting everything back together and running.
Here are some more Pics For ya:
Here is a side shot of the Rocker arms, since the pic turned out pretty good, I thought it was a pretty neat pic:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1823.jpg
The front of the motor all finished up, with the new Vac lines installed, water pump and my over sized SFI balancer:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1825.jpg
Flex Plate installed:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1827.jpg
Last but not least, the motor finally in the car after being out of the car since last year:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1839.jpg
I also installed my Yank TQ so that I could get my other one rebuild.
As I was filling the Trans, I noticed I had a leak somewhere and come to find out, last year when the motor went, and part of the rod flew out the back side of the motor, shown here:
http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh134/seanspic/SANY1710.jpg
It put a nick in the trans case. At the time I did not see any damage, to the trans case, but come to find out, there was a hair line crack in the case about .5 inch long. Since there is no pressure in that part of the trans, and I did not want to have to pull the motor AGAIN, SO, I pulled out the good ol' JB weld, and smeared it on the spot, all is good.
Upon First start up, the car sounded GREAT. I think this is the first time I have put my motor in, and there was not a single leak!! It seems that I always forget something.
Yesterday, My friend and I drove around for about 40 miles adjusting the injector fuel table for the E85 and 80# injectors. I think we got it pretty close since we got the Long Term Fuel trims pretty close to 0.
A couple of times I got on it pretty hard, and HOLY COW, it feels very strong. The trans feel the best it has ever felt, since I put the YANK in. The only thing is I think it may be a 3500 stall (bought it new from a guy that never installed it and forgot what stall it was), which may be too high for my setup, but I am going to drive it for while and see what happens.
If I can get my car dialed in more before this Friday, I am headed to the track and beat the eyes out of it and see how the ol' GP likes the corn, the higher compression, and BES built motor!! Wish me luck, and thanks again for looking.

Well, just when I think I have a great plan in place to be able to make it to the track this Friday, my week goes to crap on me.
I was going to take my car up to Morristown IN to have a friend of mine help me fine tune the "Tune" on the car on Weds, then on Thursday, get the car ready for racing on Friday.
Well, Today, I forgot about a Meeting I have at work tomorrow, Thursday my wife was a wake to go to and now Friday is out for me:mad: Just not enough time to get the car ready.
Oh well, there is always next week. At least my tuner is able to get me in on Saturday, so I am going to head up there in the morning, spend a few hours driving around and tuning. That way I have all week to get the car ready for the track.
I need to pull out both front seats, install my race seat, install my Ice box in the front floor board, change out my wheels to the slicks, clean and wax the car, put on my "Road Wrap" and load the car on the trailer.
So, I have a little bit of work to get done anyways before going racing, but I should be ready for next Friday. I just hope nothing else goes wrong for me. Wish me luck

Well, today went as planned, and I was able to make it up to my friends place in Morristown to do some driving around in corn county. On the first pull, first gear held and when it shifted into second, (remember I have a auto) it chirped second!! My car has NEVER chirped second. The new TQ converter is working out great.
I must say, the car pulls hard and the all the shifts are firm and very fast. My car has never felt like this before, ever. After making several adjustment and flashing the PCM many times, I think we have it dialed in pretty good. Right now, running E85, and a heat soaked motor, I was able to have around 23.5 to 24 degrees of timing with NO KR. Man I am happy.
Here is a video I shot with my phone, so the quality is pretty crappy, but if you fast forward to 1:00, my friend hammers on it, it down shifts to second and then into third. The SC is screaming, I love it (But sorry for the audio). Plus we have the shfits points at around 6700 rpm.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6eb4gMFENk&feature=youtu.be
It was a long day for sure, 2 hrs up, 2 hrs back and riding around for 3 hrs tuning, I am worn down from 7 hrs of driving, all worth it though.
All in all, I can wait till Friday to see what it does, I am hoping for 11.5x again if not better. What would really be cool is to be ask to leave because I don't have a cage:rolleyes: More than likely, that is not going to happen.

Well, last Friday I ran the car for the first time as many as you know and it was nothing but trouble, but at the tame time I learned a lot.
In the end, I think I have balloned my TQ converter, so I order one this past monday and I should have it on Monday. So My plan is to pull the motor this weekend. It seems to me that my motor is out more than it is in:rolleyes:
Once I get the motor pulled, I can check everything out, and clearance the rear cover bolts since it looks like the flex plate was rubbing, and make sure there is not anything else rubbing.
My goal, is to pull the motor this weekend, put in the new converter on Monday, the the motor back in my Tuesday or Weds, and go race on Friday. I guess we will have to see, stay tuned. I will try and post up some pics once I get the motor out.
If anyone is bored and wants to come out to the garage to watch or help or just shoot the crap, send me a PM. It is always better to have others around wrench'n.
