Fired up my laptop and was running fine. Went to get my phone from my bed room where was charging and on my return to the computer, it had a black screen and a curser at the top left. I rebooted the computer and it just seems to want to keep rebooting over and over after it reaches the BIOS screen. I really didn't have any time to mess with this today and now I am stuck completely on my tablet. At least Android operating system is reliable...

XP, Vista or 7? Have you tried to see if it will boot in safe mode?

I've ha two brand new ones do that this month. Never did get them working again. I'm getting tired of returning this damn thing to SAMs club I always heard good about Jo but this is my first one and I'm pretty pissed about it
I've had to replace the hard drive on my HP. I've heard from others with the 640 G having similar problems. what model and hard drive?

This is why i'm scared of laptops. I'd rather deal with a desktop so i can at least easily repair it.

If you replace it, dont buy a Dell.

What is worth buying. Acer isn't very good. I think they try to make things so cheap none are real good. I carry lenovo for work. They last a long time but it has a hefty price. Any more I just buy an extended warrenty for any electronics and it has paid off numerous times on cameras and computers. I bought a macbook pro for my daughter and she seems to like that. I really like my ipad. I think computers are like doctors and mechanics. If you talk to enough people somebody will have a horror story. I had a deal with the old provident bank that when a company filed bankruptcy I got the computers. They had a leasing divison.I would get a van full of laptops. I got so use to working on them and got pretty good. People still ask me for laptops. When they sold out I lost my connection. I made a ton of money. GET THE EXTENDED WARRENTY and buy what you want.

Agreed Lenovo (formally IBM Thinkpad) is a fantastic laptop. Microcenter has an i5 series for $499.00. They have i3 series Lenovos for less.

Guys i am on my second acer since 2006. they were both 500 dollar walmart specials. i don't use it for any gaming or mass storage, just internet and maybe 40 gigs of media.
my wifes macbook is pretty solid too. since 09 only had a problem with the charging port and they fixed it in store free of charge a month after the warranty was up.

Lenevo/IBM or nothing.
An i5 is on the list for next batch of toy purchase.

Toshiba laptops FTW!!
I have been using them since 1997, and other then my own stupid stuff, I haven't had many problems at all.

Ok, The laptop is back up and running. I went through the coding and found that a Microsoft framework update had corrupted the boot sector of the drive that told the computer to boot windows. Instead it was stuck in reboot. I took out the drive and installed it into a external HDD Case and booted it up on an older computer. I had found that it repartitioned most of the Hard drive and left un-allocated and it only formated 75 GB of info for windows restore. So I had to delete all the partitions except for the original Recovery partition and start over with a system restore. It worked but only took me 2 days of scratching my head and wondering what the hell happened.
Thanks for the support on my rantings, I have had a couple HP laptops and had pretty good luck with them, but this one just about got me fighting mad. Microsoft are idiots! too many updates.
thanks again!
