I have a plan to build an engine this summer while running a 302 in the 82 this year. The question I have for all of you is which should I build 302 or 351? I plan on starting with bare block. Aluminum heads, new rotating assembly, cam, and carb setup. Also what are your thoughts on setup? :bigthumb

If your going to use a stock block go 351. If your going to buy a good after market block either one is a good choice.

Depends on what you want to do.

Do you want to need to re-buy intake, oilpan, and headers?

Stroker 351 is the way to go for power. The budget will dictate direction

Im looking around 2-3k on the build, thats the big question with the changing everything over to 351. The car will be a street and some strip.

I would say for that money your best bet would be a good 347 kit and a set of good heads and reuse the rest of the 302 stuff.

Do you think with the setup i would be over 400hp at the wheels?

I would go with a stock block/crank/rod 351, with a good HCI and Carb you are easy 400 @ the wheels and then have the option of spraying it and going to tons more ...

Just my $.02, But I may be biased !!! LOL

No placement like displacement...at least that is what they say.

Could make that power with either combo, i may be selling a 71 351 block, 408 stroker crank, rods, and a set of RHS 215cc heads in the near future! Oh and i also know where a brand new 347 short block will be for sale for a good price also!! Let me know if you want to know more!!:bigthumb

Have near in the future?

Depends on what set up you want to go with? 351/302 based engine?

the 71 351 block is at the machine shop where i had it checked out to make sure it was good, i also have the crank, rods and pistons that came in it stock! I bought a scat 4" stroker crank and scat 6.200 Rods i was waiting to buy pistons till i decided if it was going to be NA or not! Like i said i have a brand new pair of RHS 215's to go with this also!
