Looking to have my connecting rods checked and or reconditioned, and my crank checked and possibly polished. Will need cam bearings installed too.
All for a 302
Got a quote from a local place but it seems too high for the amount of work that would really get done.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Cheap and machine shop dont go hand in hand... IMO I dont even ask pricing on machine work.

Don't understand me soo quickly, lol, I didn't say cheap, just affordable. The price I got JUST to recondition rods blew my mind. If I had a bore gauge I would do all the measuring myself and check the tolerances.... I just can't. I feel like I am being punished because I can't remove my own pistons from the rods ... so there's another charge....
I could probably polish my crank sufficiently, but I want to make sure the rotating assembly is good to go... not that I don't trust myself. Lol I will be stone honing and ball honing and assembling it all myself but there's just a few things I can't do...
I can't afford the big time stuff man

BES - They ae right in line with everyone in town for machine work cost wise.
The way I look at it, It is more affordable to pay for the stuff to be done right the first time. That way I don't spend money twice for the same item.

I just had some stock stuff done at Cooks in Westchester. Family owned and over 50 years exp. Jack milled a warped jap head, checked for cracks and valve seating/seal all for 100 bucks. And it was done in a day and a half. Seems like real nice folks.

DO NOT GO TO HORSEPOWER SALES BY CINCY SPEED!!!!!!! I had them do some heads for my v6... I ended up building my engine due to a high oil pressure issue. Had the heads checked with the guy that did the block. He said they did a half ass 3angle valve job and bowl work. But yeah I never ask for pricing either..
