Anybody ever been pulled over for a loud exhaust? I was on the way to work this morning at 5:30am.. I head down my street and turn right onto resor in fairfield.. soon as I make a right on crestview the cop hits her lights.. she told me my exhaust is was too loud and it was a state and federal law altering your exhaust. My mustang isn't that loud. It has bbk shorties, xpipe, and mac 2 chambers.. Anybody have any input on this.

Only removing your working cats is against federal law. If they are NOT WORKING and your using a TEST PIPE to CHECK the function of your cats then that would be fine.

Fairfield cops have always been dicks about loud exhaust. There is no set DB level that has been deemed "loud" and it is up to the cops discretion if it is to loud or not.

Fight it in court tell them they didn't measure with a decibal meter. I was pulled over once in Dayton with my old 96 GT it had a BBK or x-pipe and slp lm1's dumped it was loud cop was behind the gas station I was at and pulled out as soon as I left didn't even look under the car but gave me all kinds of shit I asked about him testing with a decibal meter told him if he wanted to right a ticket I'd see him in court asked what I was doing in Dayton cause I don't live there and finally let me off with a warning and said to fix it or stay out of the city. I'd try to fight in court if I was you.

i got a ticket in centerville, near dayton last year for loud exhaust in a stock srt 4 neon. the car wasn't loud at all but you could just barely hear the exaust note. they sited me for a faulty muffler. i tried to fight the ticket and the judge yelled at me and fined me 180 dollars. talk about some messed up shit.

If she just gave you a warning, she probably thought you were just some punk law-breaker and wanted to find some stupid reason to pull you over and check you out.

I've been pulled over in Greenhills 3 times in my life, and wasn't doing anything wrong on any of the occasions. The first two were no front plate/tint. The last one was just a couple of weeks ago coming home from dinner one night.

Driving at 35mph on Winton Rd, and the cop was in the driveway of the municipal building. As soon as I got up to him, he dropped it into gear and pulled out behind me. Followed me south through the town, down the hill, across Winton Woods lake, and finally lit me up when I signaled a lane change. Shut it down, rolled down the windows, and I think he was startled to see me and the wife in the car, and not some 22-year-old he might catch drinking.

Said he pulled me over because my license plate cover was too dark and he couldn't see my plate. Uh huh, saw that from the driveway of the police station before I even passed huh?

I really don't mind getting pulled over on occasion for something dumb as long as they aren't pricks. My car is obviously illegal between the tint, no front plate and the exhaust. I had forgotten all about the plate cover, so when he told me that was the reason, I actually laughed a little. Let me go with a verbal warning, which since the car IS technically illegal, I was fine with. The part that really made me laugh was when he said I should just take the plate cover off and it will save me from getting pulled over again. I wanted to say something to the extent of "You'll just find some other nonsensical reason to pull me over" but I was just said I'd do that and drove home.

Most cops don't want to be dicks. Just smile, be polite and friendly, and you'll have a much better chance of being let go with a warning.

I thought about the young punk thing.. I pulled the tint off the windows they are getting redone this spring. Even at 5:30 am she should be able to see into me car when I drove by here at 2 mph.. maybe I'm over reacting

I've only ever been pulled over for exhaust one time and i was running an open H pipe through Amelia. Lucky for me i had a brand new cat back in the trunk that i showed the cop because i was on my way to a buddy's house to install it and he let me off without even a warning and just said try to keep it as quiet as possible.

This is the best thing about my Magnaflows, they're pretty tame just cruising around but they get pretty rowdy when you mash the gas so if i just behave myself cops leave me alone.

I got pulled over in Waynesville when I had my SRT-4.... the cop said I had to put a muffler on the car.... I told him that he could try and ticket me, but I am pretty sure Dodge legally released SRT-4's without mufflers, so he would be hearing from my lawyer..... He told me to get it fixed, so the next week, I took it and had a race cat put on, with full 3" side exit, no muffler.....

I would have brought a lawyer to court with me if I were you... or at the very least, went to Dodge and have them write a statement as to the factory condition of the exhaust, you would have made the judge look like a complete and total moron...

I got pulled over in my Lincoln in Eastgate on the way to Decker's farm party with my backseat full of food and sleeping gear, and guns in the trunk LOL!!!

Said he pulled me over for my exhaust, and then tried to get me for my car being slammed in the front.

BS'd him about how it ran like shit when it had mufflers cuz they were clogged, and I had a set at home but no time and no welder :)

And then like I said, tried to get me for my front suspension... which I then told him the airride takes a shit every 30 minutes until I restart the car. Lol he had no idea what to say. Gave me a warning and let me go. Told me if I didn't get my exhaust fixed by October and he saw me again he'd throw the book at me.

So I went and totalled it like 2 weeks later when I hit a deer... showed him! Lol

Back on the road again and still just as loud. So far so good!

Fairfield - Enough said. Surprised they aren't renting Hamilton's money making camera speed trap ticketing machine.

I can say of all the things I have been ticketed for loud exhaust has never been one of them. Its a wonder though.

I have been trying to google it but haven't had any luck finding a sure answer yet, but with that said I'm pretty sure most state laws is that any exhaust that is modified from a stock form is illegal. Sounds dumb but anything louder that a stock exhaust which is nothing is illegal. Most cops don't enforce it but they can. It can also follow under a Federal Clean Air Act which altering the exhaust from stock form is illegal to but don't think the FBI is gonna be knocking on your door for driving you mustang with longtubes, o/r X and dumps on the street.

I did some quick searching for the laws and came across this site. I know a bunch of you guys have different bikes so you'll get a kick out of this. For us with just cars with modified exhaust, I'm sure we have our own fan clubs...

Pretty sure there is a demical level for cars and i know there is for boats to.
Most likely was just areason to pull you over and check you out. Proable cause gives them a reason to do anything they want. Ask them if they ever heard a poker run that also is police escorted.I switched exhaust on my harley to a 2 in 1 pro pipe from that god awful shit 90% of them run.I personal stay out of fairfeild at night just for that reason.

Several years ago a guy I work with got ticketed 2 or 3 times (by the same cop) in Hamilton for loud exhaust on his Harley. I think he beat it in court every time. Good luck.

I got nailed in Beavercreek at a red light just idling, cop said it was to loud and that it was his choice to ticket me and the was no real law about it. FBS if you ask me, I'm gonna roll through there this year with the 3 inch and race bullets, see how they like it now!

I know they have had problems/complaints of people racing around the airport at times.

One thing you might not be aware of is that the Airport Police are under federal jurisdiction which can be good or bad when it comes to sentences.....

Had a Hamilton county deputy stop me once, he didn't give me a ticket or crap about my exhaust.
He wanted to know what set-up I had. He wanted his mustang to sound like mine! True story!

The law was at one time 85 decibles at the posted speed. anything over that was deemed loud. Almost every harley in fairfield has loud exhaust. fairfield cops just suck. if it's not loud exhaust its window tint.
