Brian and Brandon pulled out 463/423 off the second pull but that was it since it was blowing like 'ole faithful out of the overflow on each pull. That was also on the factory '99 block...

All things equal and running higher compression than a 03/04 (9.1:1).... I'd love to see 580-600rwhp and 500-550tq. Hoping E85 and the rest get me there. We'll see. Figured whatever I can get out of it will be more than any other '99 I've seen with an Eaton.

Blkcobra01- Yup, you got it. I've been a market whore over there the last three months picking up parts.

Keep us posted on progress and numbers. You ever think down the road you will go kb or whipple?

swt99svt
02-08-2012, 11:14 PM
Will most definitely upgrade to a 2.9 down the road. I thought about doing it now but that's another stack of cash I don't want to spend. Get a 2.9 then I would HAVE to rebuild the T45 or swap to T56 then I'd want a McCleod twin disc and so forth.

I never had a chance to drive and enjoy the original Eaton swap so I figure going from 280rwhp with the stocker '99 motor to 600rwhp should be good enough to hold me over for a bit! :)

Well, here are some pictures of what I have done to this point. I had originally intended on just pulling the motor and putting on a new set of HGs but after I got into it I decided I wanted more and it was a waste to not do it right. So, if anything, I saved myself some $$$ on the removal :).

This will roll through where I started from to where it is today.

So the build is underway and coming along well. Here are a few shots of the progress thus far. Blower is done (Posi port), block and heads are done (going together today), and all the suspension/rear end work has been completed.

You should stud that crank. Not adding the stud, then hanging a Metco setup off it it is even worse, since you are eliminating the crank support. I can post a link for you, but it's basically just drilling/tapping the crank snout deeper for a long stud, so the clamp load is not in the snout. It's easily one of the best/cheapest modifications you can do for the bottom end on a 03 Cobra S/C drive setup. Posi knows his shit.. he'll know what I'm talking about.

Fair point but to me it's 6:1 and a half dozen to another. I'm using an ARP crank bolt in place of the Ford bolt. Knowing it already has a keyway and the addition of the ARP bolt it would seem it would be fine. This isn't a track car. It's a Sunday drive. Knowing all the 700-800whp Cobras out there I'm hard pressed to find a thread about sheering the bolt, blowing the key, and the crank letting loose.

If I were in Brian's position and my car was only used for the strip then I could completely understand the need for the stud.

Correct me if I'm wrong as now is the time for me to do it.

Started with Bassani o/r X but added the cats during this build. The cat-back is SLP LM 1. Prior to the cats and pre Eaton swap it was awesome. But after the Eaton went on you couldn't even hear the blower. Since the Posi Port will wake it up I wanted to tone the sound down a bit.

Should be just want I was looking for with the addition of the cats.

actually my buddy just had that happen to his and snapped the crank in two.

Yep, yep. Ford put that cage on for a damn good reason. I read some tech info on the 2013 GT500 engine- guess what Ford did? Drilled the crank snout deeper than your typical 5.4L crank.

The car will be just fine. This isn't a track monster. I don't drag, I don't race, and I have complete and utter faith in the builder who said "it's not necessary".

I could have drilled it deeper but that doesn't negate the fact it could snap in many other places.

This is a modest build that I'm shooting for 600whp.

Everyone is stuck on the crank but you overlook I'm still running a T45. Lord knows I figured there would be more comments on that.

Between last year and this year I have nearly 20k into the damn thing and just want to drive it considering I haven't driven the car in coming up on 18months. This car is for me to take to Milford and make a drive to Rabbit Hash. No dumps at 7k on slicks to run for the 9s.

Next on the docket is to to a resto on the paint/body, then a Viper Spec T56, and top it off with a VMP TVS with a hope for 700whp. Still, this is for me to enjoy locally, not race.

IWRBB
06-06-2012, 01:37 PM
I'm sure it will survive. Keeping the Eaton on there helps a lot with the load the unsupported crank will see. Plus, if you upgrade to a bigger blower, you can always put the stock cage back on there. A stock lower and a 3" upper should do you just fine on pump gas with the latest twin screws/TVS units.

I know your engine is all buttoned up, but when I read about the new GT500 crank modification I figured I'd mention it for those searching about modifying the crank in the future.

I'm sure you can't wait to drive it :)

Very nice build. Who assembled the engine? Looking to possibly do a full lower end upgrade to forged internals on redfire this winter if I don't end up trading it for a 2013GT. Thanks.

All the work is being done at Precision Autosports in Xenia, Oh. Jeff Wightman, the owner, did the assembly of the short/long block and had the cams degreed by NA SVT.
