My 89 Coupe Build

I picked this car up over the fall of last year. It was in awesome shape, the guy I had bought if off of had already done quite a bit of work to it. He was going to build a 8.5 car with it, but found out he was expecting a little one. Lucky for me, lol!

My original plan with the car was to run a 347 and c4. I had bought a '91 coupe that I raced last year. My fiance really liked the car and bought it off me to do a turbo set-up on. I was going to take my 347 and c4 out of it and drop into the new coupe. Then I lucked into a smokin' deal on a 408, so the plan changed (not like that EVER happens with a project car, right?)

Got the car into the paint booth about a month or so ago. I wanted to do something a little different and went with World Rally Blue. I've never seen it on a mustang before and I love the color on the Subie's.

The car came with grey interior, which I think would have looked ok. But I lucked across black interior and decided to go with it instead. Still need to make a rear seat delete. Even got the headliner back in. Everywhere yellow showed through I sprayed with truck bed liner.

Picked up a few more goodies. Took forever to get my Kooks headers in, but it was worth it. Have some odds-n-ends coming in this week for it. Oil pump, pushrods, gaskets, etc.

Got some of the glass in this past weekend and patched up a couple spots in the floor. The doors are painted and awaiting buffing. Our paint guy started on the trunk lid and was hoping to get the hood and one bumper cover done by this coming weekend.

We had an '02 bugeye a couple years ago for a daily that was wrb and I fell in love with the color. That's one reason I wanted this car, I wanted to be able to pick the color. My other coupe was grey (and primer and black and red, lol) and I would have been happy with it but this deal worked out alot better for both of us :)

Doesn't look like anymore will get painted on the car this weekend. Kind of bummed out about that. But, still managed to start tidying up the loose ends of the engine tonight. Any progress is good progress ;) Also discovered I'm missing some of the window trim and am not having much luck so far finding any :rolleyes:

what window moldings do you need

I need the window trim molding for both doors. I think that is what it's called, those two thin pieces of metal that go between window channel seal and the window frame itself. I searched latemodel and was surprised they didn't have it.

Stood and stared at it for way to long :o, so only got my shifter mounted and starting spraying the trunk, until I ran out of spray. Bumper covers are in the paint booth! I'll be so glad when there's no more painting to do and we can get to putting the real goods in the car!

We had an epiphany and decided to ditch the QA1 k-member to save time with not having to fool with fabbing up motor mounts. I bought the AJE k-member instead, so we got those swapped out today.

Ordering my door panels this week, got my rear seat delete in, so interior should be 99% done this coming weekend.

My fiance made some adjustments to the front suspension while I was painting and I'm thinking it's sitting a bit better now. Still need to do the rear.

Started running the fuel lines, tranny should be going out this coming weekend to get work done. Still looking for a alum radiator and driveshaft ;) ;) Hopefully if we don't lose anymore time working on it, it's less than two months from being track ready!! :D

I washed and cleaned them with Scuff It and after they had dried I wiped them down with a grease/dirt remover. That dried almost instantly and I sprayed them with adhesion promotor. I waited a few minutes and just used trim paint, lots and lots of light coats. I practiced on the cubby hole pockets first and learned that lesson pretty quick, lol.

What door panels did you order and where from?

They were ordered from americanmuscle.com it was the best deal we could find on them. They are just black door panels for manual windows for an 87-93 coupe/hatch. They didn't come with any hardware, it's just the panels.

Any updates on times?

No, not yet. We took it out again but didn't make any progress. Won't be able to take it back out til next weekend. So we'll see what happens then. I've got a couple videos, just haven't had a chance to get them uploaded yet. :)

A friend sent me a message when we were on our way home from the track Saturday and told me about it, I hadn't had any idea. That was pretty cool! I was enjoying some of the guesses, including Chicken Sammich, Waldo, and a Prius motor, lol. :)

Thanks! No I didn't use a tripod. I did turn my exposure down a bit to help bump up my shutter speed, it was at 1/20 sec.
