long tube macs on my 87 vert are rubbing the factory steering shaft on a factory power rack. what is the fix for this? will the flaming river steering shaft move itself over enough on a manual rack? thanks in advance

You can loosen the steering column mounts and shift it over to gain a little clearance. Or, dimple the header tube to clear the steering shaft. I had to do both with BBK long tubes.

I used a flaming river shaft with my 1 3/4" mac headers and it worked nicely, it gets rid of the (rag joint) that causes the rubbing, or dent your header its cheaper and works too.

OK thanks guys. I don't need too terribly much, they just rest on each other. So hopefully one or the other can work. My power rack is apparently junk so kind of gives me a reason to get the manual one now.

If it is in the budget go with the manual rack, I do believe they offer a street version and a strip version.

You can also loosen your motor mount to k-member bolts and "rock" the motor in the cradle some to give you a bit more clearance.

I definitely think I'm gonna spring for the manual. Do I want the 20:1 or the 15:1? Also on the steering shaft there is a normal or the chromeloy... does that matter?
