I bought a 90gt 5 speed 3.73 gears shorthand headers o/r h flows dumped ac delete and no smog. It had a lunati roller cam about a 512 list... I want to run bottom to mid 11s this summer. I had a budget of $4500 to start out with. I paid $1600 for the car which leaves $2900 to buy other parts. The guy I got the car from has offered me a turbo kit complete ready to go. But I've never done one before. So what I'm asking is what do you think I should do? I've always been a nitrous guy. Should I buy the turbo kit or just buy a h/c/I and a nitrous kit? Please help me..... Lol

And get somebody to help me do the install of the turbo kit... Cause like I said I don't know the first thing about them...

The turbo kit is pretty self explanatory if you have Any car knowledge you should be able to install the turbo kit the turbo will get you 11s but your going to need suspension an tires to get it to hook to get 11s also

jack90gt
01-29-2012, 10:29 PM
It has drag springs front and rear upper and lower control arms and drag radials right now...

01-29-2012, 10:46 PM

01-29-2012, 10:59 PM
There is nobody up here that will tune it do I'm gonna end up trailering it down there. I talked to a guy named Brian about tuning it and be quoted me a pretty good price I think...

Were are you? If you are talking about Dynotune he has tuned more turbo SBF's than most. Also there are like 5 other tuners in col. Also On3 is from Sunbury so you can pick it up in person

That said yes turbo kit is the best way

I am dead smack in the middle northern part of the state. I just have to go get the kit from his house. It us a b&g turbo kit with a mp t70. I guess what I'm saying is I just don't know if I want to go turbo or not but it is probally the easiest way to reach my goal... I will get the pics when I get home. I am still at work. Gotta live when people call off...

I thought your were on a budget? how are you going to buy a 393, a set of heads, a trans that will hold up and 31 spline parts for your 8.8 all for 1600?

jack90gt
01-30-2012, 12:16 AM
The budget went to $4500 because my wife said I deserve it...

The 393 is a shortblock that's why I gotta find heads for it too and a intake..

I went 11's on a N/A 306 with unported GT-40 Y heads, 93 coupe and a carb, easy to go 11's... just gotta use a little sense, any power adder will drive cost more then it seems, injectors, fuel system, trans issues, rear end depending on power, there are many little things that add up...

The big problem I see here is everyone mentions how to make power in various ways, don't forget the suspension you have to make it launch. Are tires not part of the budget? A carb and nitrous will be the cheapest way to get there on power for sure, just like 60 year old hookers with the clap are the cheapest. It still doesn't make it right, especially if you plan to street drive the car. Reliability is another issue all together. A stock t5 running 11's won't last long. A c4 swap will be the cheapest solution but not very good for the street IMO. You could pick up a junkyard 4r70w and put a transgo manual valvebody kit in it, along with a few other things. That will outlast a stock t5 by far and be great on the street, for reliability you'll end up putting more money into it after a while. To get it to launch your money will go into a converter. An aod is about the same scenario but they cost more to build. I like the turbo idea to get there but not for a guy who is learning. A supercharger is typically much easier for a learning experience with boost. Then your money will go into a converter. Point being there are 30 ways to get there in your budget. Doing it reliable will be harder.

See that's what I'm saying about the turbo. It would be a lot different if I actually knew more about them.. that's why I wad thinking about the 393 but the more I talked to that guy the shadyer he got. He was supposed.to have receipts for the build. Says Ohio crankshaft did the build. But when he got the reciepts in the mail they were tore up so you can't even read them.... I might just throw a good h/c/I on it and alittle bit if spray and go play....

PErsonally, you dont need spray unles you want to go LOW 11's if you do H/C/I.... I have been building "budget" mustangs for 20 years, its not hard to run 11's these days, later T-5 can handle it if you drive it right, I have had many with stock 8.8 and used slicks all the time, hurt one axle in all the years, my 306 was the best engine I ever did, and it was affordable, carb is easiest and cheapest way I dont car what anyone says, easy to tune, I drove my 11 second 5 speed equipped 306, 4:30 gear with a spool (in that car) about 5000-6000 miles a year, loved that car, went 11.60@115. suspension was edrag struts up front, 50/50 rears with BBK upper and lower, had airbag in rt. spring, car went 1.7 60' on slicks with the right launch... I drove the piss out of it and revved to 6700, it can be done, easiest way to do it is buy other peoples unfinished projects, use what you want, sell the rest and get your money back, and even make money... thats how I build all my cars now...

11's are easy with N/A no juice, nitrous sucks, when it runs out, your car is slow, been there...I did it with unported heads and a custom cam, 11:1 compression 650 holley, nobody thought it would go 11's, I proved em all wrong, custom cam was the trick... not off the shelf junk..

you have a point............... i also know of a few "fully built" motors that blew up last year, everything breaks sooner or later,he will have a good foundation and a 10sec recipe just have to upgrade the shortblock in the future,i had 10 sec shortblocks hold up for yrs and know of alot of 10 sec stock block cars

You have a much better chance having it live n/a running 11' s then you do power adder running 10' s... especially on a stock shortblock... I don't think anyone in the right mind would argue that...I am not saying it can't be done... but its a time bomb... sorry

i wouldn't go bracket racing with it every weekend on 500 hp of boost ....turn the boost down to 7lbs and you can bracket race all you want with it :bigthumb boost is adjustable;)

Yeah I understand that... Like I said just want a toy for the weekends. No bracket racing here. Maybe 1or 2 hits at the track that's it... Other then that just a fun street car...

I just took a stroll through the classifieds and found a long block with a Holley top end kit and anderson blower cam along with a nice blower set up. Both can be had very close to your budget. Then your weak link is the tranny. Sell your existing engine and put that cash toward other needed parts.
